Broke down, broken into....

Wasn't paying attention to my gas yesterday and ran out of it on the highway on the way back from dallas yesterday, BFE between Westmoreland and Cockrell Hill

So I went a walkin..... and came back to find my passenger window smashed out, all my new gauges ripped out, my new JUST BOUGHT springs stolen from the passenger seat, the Rtek attempted to be ripped out, MY STEERING WHEEL removed, and everything I had in the car gone as well.

F-ing thieves! What kind of person does that ****?

An Eyewitness who saw it go down from about 100 yards away said I was 5 minutes too late from catching them. 5 dudes in a black toyota. He said they were convincing too, he thought it was on of their cars and they were working on it, until they drove off and he saw me walk up with a gas can. I wish I had caught them.... but I guess I'm lucky I didnt, 5 on 1 isn't ideal.

Sooooooooooo then, if you see some Prosport premium gauges around for sale, and some RB springs, punch the ****** in the face for me and get that **** back.

That's their scam, they act like they just broke down and a "friend" is helping them.

Assume this was on I-30? If so, you can't leave a car by the road for 5 minutes w/o it getting jacked. I used to see 2-3 a day like that, on the shoulder and glass broken out, but haven't seen it in a while. This was on I-30, on the stretch between Loop 12 and Hampton.

What time of day was this?

Who is your auto insurance company?

Farmers Ins has a roadside assistance number, they will bring you a gallon or two of gas if you run out. Other insurance companies may have a similar service, it's worth it to ask.

I've got cheap *** insurance seeing as its an 86 mazda, and if the insurance company sees a scratch on it they total the ******* thing. (ask me how I know) So they dont have **** to offer me. It was about 2:30-3:30 in the afternoon.... I get the pleasure of investigating the extent of the damage tomorrow and seeing if I can save it. They f'd up a lot of crap, this was my DD and I'm not rich; after all, I drive an FC, lol. I may have to part it out if they messed up too much.

Well that sucks. The kick to the crotch is that they took your steering wheel so you couldn't even drive home afterward.
I have an alarm on my car. Might have helped, until they cut the battery cable anyway.

When I told my wife about this, she told me that you can call the State for help when stranded, and sure enough:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/directo...isthotline.htm

Basically: the number is on the back of your driver's license, and they can contact the local courtesy patrol, cops, or sheriff.

First of all be reponsible for your actions. I never have run out of gas in my life and I am 66 years young.
Texas does have a roadside assitance number!

Go back with friends, weapons, and a different type of sports car.
Set up a trap with some cover.
Catch them.

That sounds like a plan...

The thing about running out of gas is, I knew I was low; but not that low. A gas station was the next exit down and judging by the my experience with the fuel gauge I still had at least twenty miles in the tank. So either I misjudged it or something else went wrong and i assumed that the thing ran out of gas.

I thought about calling the roadside assist number, but I figured a gas station was closer than it really was. Bad move.

Oh well. It really sucks and I'm mega pissed, both at myself and at the jerks that have nothing better to do than go around ripping people off. Get a ******* job, asshats. I mean the crap they pulled wouldn't get them more than $20 to $40 bucks from whoever the hell buys obviously stolen equipment. Whereas to me, they just destroyed $1200 bucks worth of equipment and potentially my whole car. Crackheads, go eat a dick.

I wont find out about the car till Monday now, I've got to work the rest of the weekend. Aggravating...

You're my road dog mang.

I can give you a window and I know where there is a steering wheel that will fit your car. Merry Christmas!

What else do you need to get down the road?

Haha, I wonder where that wheel came from? Thanks guys, I'm about to head over and see whats going on with it... hopefully its just the ECU and Rtek can repair it for not too much money. I just miss the gauges, they were pretty sweet:

Scott, I'm hoping to get back into the racing crew in time for Texas Motor Speedway, haha.

^^^ If you want it, I'm not sure how to get you the window without it getting all smashed to **** on the way or shipping costing more than picking up the parts on your side of the planet.

Anyone making a Houston-ish trip to Fort Worth that can help Al out by bootlegging the window and steering wheel?

What else you need to get going? I only have an S5 Turbo ECU somewhere around here so that won't be much use.

If it helps, Pick n Pull lists an S4 in their Ft Worth yard. There are also 3 S4's across their Dallas West and South yards.

Yeah, go do that and when they start to run, you shoot them in the back, right???
Explain that to a jury, the use of lethal force when your life is not in danger, just because they broke into your car.
This is premeditated murder and I would pay to see you do it.
No car is worth the grief of trying to be a vigilante.

People giving this kind of advise, won't do it, don't know the law and/or FAILED the CHL course.

Pay attention, don't run out of gas, it is cheaper and not being someone's B-atch in jail....PRICELESS!!!

Woot! Got her running! Turns out the fuel pump switch was broken. Hell that could have been the very reason the car stopped to begin with! Mother-******!

Oh well, I appreciate the help fellas! Truly the cream of society up in here.... I got a spare steering wheel, and I'm hitting up the pick and pull tomorrow to get a passenger window. So I guess I'm just out a nice set of gauges and a nice set of springs, at least I can still look forward to pumping $4.50 93 octane this summer!

Check craigslist.org to see if they are selling your stuff. This forum should have a stolen and found section for this very reason.

You know, considering you probably still have all the sending units in place, perhaps you could call ProSport...tell them what happened....and all you need are the gauge units themselves to put everything back together. I'd expect they would cut you a smoking deal since your original order wasn't exactly modest. You can also tell them I bought mine (EGT and Oil Temp) only after seeing yours in person (which is absolutely true) not to mention the pictures you've posted in the forum that has generated so much more interest in their gauges (which is also absolutely true in my case). https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=megan&page=3

Still a cost, but not as bad as it would be otherwise.

This is why you should pay roadside assistance when you drive a car 10+ yrs old and modified. AAA -$65.00 or less a yr will help stop this from happening in the future.

Glad to hear you got it running again.
