TX 7-18-09 Texas Gymkhana Event @ Mineral Wells!!!

Welcome Friends!!! Its time for Gymkhana racing in Texas!!!

For those that don't know, Gymkhana is the Japanese version of autocross, in which drifting is allowed and your main goal is efficient technical driving and car control, to allow you to navigate through the course in the quickest time possible.

Tech inspection starts at 9:00am, driver's meeting will start around 9:45am. Please be there early enough for this if you intend to drive.

Runs will continue throughout the day, probably until shortly before sunset, or until everyone is tired and no drivers wish to make any more runs for the day, whichever comes first.

All runs will be timed, but only your fastest run will count.

This course will be huge by gymkhana standards taking an avg of 2 minutes to complete.

The course will include auto barrel racing, reverse section, 180's, and a stop box.

There will be a tech inspection of each car before it is allowed to go on the track, which will include a quick lookover of the car and safety equipment (ie helmet, seat belts, ect.. )

The inspection will also include a J turn. We need to see that your cars suspension is up to the task of keeping you from rolling over so a quick 15 mph j turn will give us a chance to make sure everyone will be safe and have a fun day..

Tech will be strictly enforced to weed out high CG vehicles. Those vehicles that fail tech due to high CG will be allowed to run but will not be allowed to use the reverse section.

Prices for the event are as follows:

Drivers entrance fee - $40

Pit access (if you are not driving but are with a crew or want to hang out in the pits with the drivers) - $5

General spectators area - Free!!!

The top 3 finishers will recieve half price admission to the next Cloudfactory sponsored Mineral Wells event, and we aim to make these a regular thing.

The #1 finisher will recieve free admission to the next event.

The track will be located at Mineral Wells Airport.. In the back on the old tarmac...

Thanks and I hope to see you there!!!

I also just found out several DFW area shops will be attending and setting up tents out there as well, so its a good opportunity to meet people and make friends in the DFW tuning scene. This is going to be a big event, don't miss it!

BTW - This event is posted on quite a few local forums, so the attendance and the rival drivers should be very good. We already have a good number of people saying they will be there from all over the north texas area. So far the only 'seven I know that will be out there is my buddy's very cool SCCA race prep FB. He's the dude standing on the barrel in the picture above, he's got ***** lol. Lets not leave the Sevens out! I wanna see y'all out there ripping it up!

I know my ride isn't ready for this kind of event, but who all is going to show up to race?

I'd go to help cheer on the rotaries... maybe we can meet for breakfast somewhere near FW and head out together?? Perhaps make it a cruise??

Its not a one on one race, you are only racing the clock. Each person goes out on the course individually, one at a time, and completes the course as quickly as possible while still performing the required maneuvers. Each run will be timed by someone standing at the start/finish area with a stopwatch. Each cone you hit or mistake you make while on the course will add a time penalty to your final time for that run. You can make as many runs as you like throughout the day, simply get back in line and go again whenever its your turn. There will be a line of drivers waiting to run lined up behind the starting gate. If you hit cones and mess up the course, you must take a moment to help pick them up and put them back where they go before the next person runs.

As for the pic in the flyer of 2 cars drifting around the barrel, those are a couple of my best friends and teammates having some tandem fun, and there may be a couple times in the day when we could have certain drivers like this that we know and trust, to go out there and do some exhibition-style driving and drifting for the crowd.

Actually the Gymkhana is a British version of autocross, the word was first used for equestrian events.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This event is only one week away now guys! Get ready! Also, to make things more interesting, in addition to the $40 drivers class, there will now be a new completely optional higher stakes competition class available for those interested... the entrance fee for this class will be $75 and the grand prize is much better...

Winner of the new $75 competition class will receive a New Comp Turbo ordered to there specs in journal bearing up to specs of a 35R, meaning you want a GT28RS, GT2871, 30R,35R, you can get the journal bearing equivilent, you can also have one made to your specs, or the winner can pay the difference and get it upgraded to a triple ball bearing center section.

Get those cars in shape! Plan your caravans! See you there!!!

Psh! The weather should be nice anyway. I got my boosting issue (or lack thereof) worked out so I'm looking for a cruise.

Keep this on the down low, but I did go cruising with the local Honda club several months back and they seemed surprised that my FC made the 200+ sum-odd mile trip, and the run on the little "touge" road they found out in the middle of no-where Texas, on a single tank of gas with over a quarter of a tank left

I'm a little surprised as well... still had 1/4 tank left?? Were you *****-footing the throttle so the Hondas could keep up??

You kiddin me? The roads were open, the speed limit was like 70-75, I was WOT as often as I could We were out West well past Mineral Wells... I think the last sign I saw was for Haskel. Now I don't remember if it was saying we were there or it was coming up.

Own an rx-7 for a year and that will change

You'll make long trips as short as possible and probably NOT sight-see unless you're somewhere familiar (I.E. people you know to help you aren't too far away... just in case..) and laugh as your gas gauge flashes before your eyes.
