Sportscars may not be defined by the TX DMV or DOT, but they are defined by the community that makes and enjoys them. If it was built with 4 seats, it's not a sportscar. And to this sad situation...

The big, bloated 2ndgens were marginally sportscars to begin with. Adding seats is like adding a superb stereo or nitrous and slicks. You have not changed what it is. The Porsche944-wannabe has not suddenly become the Bass Hall or a real race car simply because you added things to it that define those entities.

Likewise, your addition of rear seats has not changed that it is still a marginal sportscar for the folks that couldn't afford the Porsche.

Ouch.

Yet, I still find myself liking the FC more than the FB.

Almost bought a FB this week BTW. Cool little cars.

Yeah, I chose to ignore his post. The porsche wanna be stuff is weak. Given the fact I was 11 years old when my car was built I was hardly comparing window stickers on 944s and FCs. Who cares what the engineers had in mind when designing the car. Every single car built is built with the market competition in mind. I honestly don't know a single person that has bought or is wanting to buy a 2nd gen because they cannot afford a 944. The argument would have made more sense if he'd have explained why the FC is considered marginal or bloated instead of generalizing FC owners as wannabe porsche owners. He might've actually had me agreeing with him on some points rather than me sitting here thinking he's a bit prickish. God knows I spent enough time stripping unwanted features off of my FC.

^^^^^^^^^^
I read the post by Mar3 and I didn't think he was attacking or implying that.
I believe he was talking about the general feeling about that car at the time.
What was thought to be the impression of the people right or wrong at that time when the model came out.

*I must be sick or something, by not trying not to start **** here.....oh well.*

WELL, since we're still going strong on this topic...yep, I was alive and well past my teens when the nimble, but getting heavier FB suddenly went Anna Nicole on us and popped in every direction to become the FC. When I say Porsche 944-wannabe, I'm talking about the design profile/silhouette. I'll have to dig up the pics again that drives the point home. Bloated is simply in reference to all the weight the FCs gained versus the lithe SA and early FBs...true or not? You know this ***** is right...lol.....see ya Saturday, maihn...I'd take the brutal CBird, but I don't have the top stretched and my esse wants to go somewhere after the meet. It's already an easy car to jack, but there's no point in just giving it away to some punk while I'm in a club. I'll see if I can't whip up a new paint scheme for the hood of the '83....

Perhaps...maybe as a FC owner I'm oversensitive. Heh. Anyway, I'm not here to start **** either. I'm new to Texas and God knows I'd rather be making new friends than enemies. You needn't dig pics out. I think the physical similarities are obvious and pretty much every RX-7 history book I've read has covered that. And I'd have to agree with you on the bloated part although the only first gen I ever owned was a GSL-SE so from general driving feel I don't have too much to compare to but that thing was a go-cart. You could toss it around like nothing.

Indeed, my heavy hand was directed at the car and not at the person...even the '84/'85 FBs are a bit heavy in my opinion with that clunky dash look to boot.

Soooooo, are ya going to make the meet? It's this Saturday at the LBJ Cheddar's parking lot.

No - what Shawn posted is not what the original arguement was. He warped it. He originally stated that the RX-8 couldn't go 140 mph and I know it can. He then morphed it into saying the FD would "trash" the RX-8, which neither Tessai nor I ever dissagreed with. (I think Shawn realized that arguing with a woman who is correct is a futile effort. )

Does the fact that the FD has been around for over 10 years, while the 8 has been around for less than 3, make a difference?

I wish I was going to make the meet, but right now I think I have a conflicting family gathering. But if I get out early enough I hope to head that way. I've got my fingers crossed. In New Orleans I held monthly FR owners meets and I was the only RX-7 in attendence with the exception of another FC one time. I was looking forward to moving out here and attending meets where rotaries were more abundant and somehow I've managed to miss every one since my move.

Well I just watched a video of a new Civic Si doing 140 so I'm positive that the Rx-8 will do 140.

Shawn must not be married, because he would then know, that not only it is futile arguing with a woman that is RIGHT, but also with one who is WRONG.
LOL
I learned that lesson 13 years ago.

according to raod & track the Rx8s rated top speed is 148. though on that same test the car is rated at 238 hp.
havin driven one, I dont think the car has enough power in the higher gears to do 140, probably stops pulling around 130

Do you know, if the rated Top Speed for the RX8 in R&T is an actual measured top speed or is it a calculated one based on HP and gearing????

It's been quiet here for a while, so here we go again:
Solo 2 Nationals results:
B Stock Class, 1st and 2nd place RX8
B Stock Class Ladies, 1st and 3rd place RX8
Street Modified 2 Class, 2nd and 12th place RX7 FD
A Street Prepared 12th and 13th place RX7 FD
B Prepared Class, 13th* and 14th* place RX7 FD
*Finished 1st and 3rd in Class but were disqualified*

So it seems, that the RX8 is a better performer, based on the place it finished in Class.
I think it's time for an RX8.............NOT!!!!!
I'll keep my single turbo RX7 , even if I have to mortgage the house again.

Doesn't the FD compete with the Z06 in those classes? If so thats why we don't do so well.

How'd they do in the last D1 where real car control can fuddle even the likes of Rod Millen in drifting competition?

lol...I'll bet the blower belt was slipping...I'll have to hook up some speakers to this loaner PC the next time I visit that site....and D1 only matters if car control is the subject...I personally don't care for drifting, but car control is everything in that competition and some car platforms simply aren't meant for drifting and car control is the reason why.

The days of "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" died in the sixties, so come to think of it, no racing series is actually relevant these days when it comes to the cars...

I dont think that's entirely fair.

Pro Formula Mazda runs the stock Renesis engine.

And they're using it as a testbed for future improvements. Just like every racing series still does.

True, but I still need to see more RX8 on the road.
Mazda admitted the sale have been slow and not what they expected.
