Wich BOV is right for my single?

Lately I've been spamming the single board with questions concerning everything from DPs, to wastegates. I'm sorry- But you'll have to deal with one more thread until my project is done.

My next question is concering the proper sized BOV. My setup is a SR stage 2 turbo, XS cast manifold, and a HKS 50mm wastegate. I'm looking for a BOV that will release enough air to not have to worry about surging, and is'nt extremely large.

I've heard that the Greedy Type R or the HKS racing one would work fine. Would anyone else like to add a BOV to my list? Keeping the price low is nice, but I don't want to trade price for quality. Thanks for your guys help. CJ

There are many good BOV's out there. Aside from being necessary for our cars, they also have become somewhat of a fashion statement, since people do pick them according to looks and sound, as well as function.

I'm a pretty much a fan of everything TIAL. There have been some issues with it from other users, with apparent compressor surge, but this issue may have been resolved.

Ditto ^ i've heard Greddy Type R to be the most popular one used in conjunction with a single turbo

Tial or the HKS SSQV seem to be the way to go for the guys that are boosting heavy. I know a ton of FD's and FC's that run those and love them both! Also, I have a few friends that are boosting around the 2 BAR mark and use the Tial(keep in mind that the cars are MKIV Supras and a new WRX.) None of them have had any problems with compressor surge. Just thought that I would throw in my .02 Hope it helps. Laterz.

I've had a blitz, whichs sounds nice but after a while it started leaking. Now I have a Greddy type S and I love that thing....It sounds beautiful, and whistles.....no problems so far....and planning on adding another.

blitz is a nice sounding and looking bov however they have been know for their bov springs getting weak and leaking such as the case with rx7superman. the greddy type r would be one of my choices along with the tial. the hks to me sounds too loud.

I was just wondering how those BOVs installed on a universal setup. On my current one, the flange is welded on the intercooler piping and then set-screws hold the BOV in place onto the flange. Is that how all of them are done?

For the most part yeah. There are a few other ways, but welding the flange on then bolting/screwing the BOV to the flange is the most commonly used method.

CJ, I would usually recomend the Greddy type R or HKS Racing BOV, but you should try the Turbonetics Godzilla BOV...that thing is a MONSTER (no pun intended)

I might be picking up a IC pipe set that allready has a apexi twin chamber flange mated to it. Would the apexi twin work? CJ

I have that BOV on my TII and I personally can't stand it. It doesn't seem to release quick enough and it's so quiet that it is hard to hear if it's getting everything out. I know that you can just listen for compressor surge, but I prefer to hear it from my BOV instead of waiting to hear a comp surge. Just my .02
