What does a single turbo feel like to drive?

Hey guys. I am just wondering how different it is going to be to drive my car once it gets done. Right now I have all the bolt ons on my fd, and am pry around 330 at 14 psi (this is a guess). In about 3 weeks I will have my 500r turbo from a-spec hooked up and boosting 15 psi on a stock ported engine(I am guessing around 400 rwhp). What is that going to feel like in comparison. I have never been for a ride in a single turbo fd. How did some of you feel after going through the same transition. I am assuming most went from bolt ons, then upgrading to a single.

well IMO when you get turbo fully spooled at a certain rpm it feel like the wheels wana spin right out from underneath the car. as for TT i have never driven one but have heard its a more gradual boosting through a longer rpm band. but i could be wrong

I'm running an older turbo, but it does'nt feel that bad down low in the RPMs. However, once the engine comes up around 3,500 it realy starts to build boost quickly. By 4,500 its full boost, and hang onto your shorts, because you're going for a ride. Tire spin through the lower gears, and I have just enough tire to grip in 3rd. 4th gear feels feels like its nearly acclerating the car as hard as it does in 3rd gear. Its alot of fun. CJ

twin turbo setup is mostly a street car. Boost whatever you want at what ever rpm you wanna put it at!

single turbo (like mine) spools around 4700 (with a stock motor) 4200rpm (with a 1/2 bridge port). as your driving through the traffic you get to a point where you wanna have a little fun. but as soon as your turbo starts to spool you slow down because of traffic.
BUT then theres the highway. you can be in 3rd gear (around 60mph) with a single turbo and it spools and it puts you in your seat. the car screams by every single car. Depending on what turbo you choose your lag wouldnt bother you.

it scares you. but even with a 4-500hp you gotta hang on to that steering wheel cause just a twitch and you spin out because of the wheels just spinning like crazy.

Be careful. I just got my car tunned (see sig) and its quick with just that. so id imagine how it feels with a whole lot more

i love mine even though i havent been able to see full boost over 2nd gear yet. it is super fun i hit full boost at about 4k and when it hits it will stick u to the seat. and like said above u gotta hold on to the wheel. i dont have near the power he does. but mine will still get very loose in second and it will spin 3rd for a second. but i still havent seen full boost above 2nd gear. so i cant say for highway pulls and ****.

Get ready for a big "kick in the pants" and hold on to the wheel.

A bit of the lazy day fun factor is gone since the car requires 100% attention at all times.

When I did my first high boost runs (just 15 psi) I couldnt wipe the smile off my
f-inn face. My friend and I did some 3rd and 4th gear pulls, holly **** from 40 to 120 is instant. We both just laughed at the diffrence from 300hp to 440hp is amazing.

My first thoughts after the ride were , "I finally know what a real turbocharged car feels like"

Pwwatkins, what are the specs on your 500r kit? That can help us a bit to give you some more of an estimate as to how your setup may feel.

Heres my take on single turbo setups. Recently I got a ride in a 488HP rx7 at A-spec. Now, every time I stop by A-spec to check in on my car I want to go for another ride in that car.... I cannot wait till my car is done because I am told it will feel very similar but less laggy(the 488HP FD had a larger IC). BTW I got a 500R too!

the first time u drive it it'll definitly catch u by suprise haha the rush of power is very sudden when it hits, and keeps pulling hard btw i have 5psi at 3500 rpms, so its not like its a chore to drive around town at lower rpms

I got the 1.00 I will have the blitz ic, and will be boosting to 15 psi on my stock port motor. The motor has been rebuilt with 2mm seals, but the person who had it rebuilt did not get it ported. It will be tuned by Bonzai racing.

i think killswitch hit it on the nose, it depends on the kit and motor. I've ridden in quite a few different ones, even the same motor with two kits at opposite ends of the spectrum, an apexi rx6 and T-66. Well, i consider a t-66 a big turbo. My motor had a hybrid turbo (courtesy of Sean @ A-spec) 35R/t-66, and the same motor with an Apexi Rx6 after i sold it to my buddy.
with the t-66/35r obviously it took a little longer to hit full boost (only .8 bar at the time), but holy **** when it got going...no traction through 3rd with 275's on the rear (426rwhp). the apex spooled much quicker, probably funner in city-type driving, but didnt' feel nearly as fast with only about 10 less HP (15psi). not quite the surge or pressure pushing you back into the seat. I was kinda dissapointed actually, i was expecting it to feel just as fast but with an almost instant spool. the same guy tuned both setup's too.
its crazy how different setups 'feel'. just to clarify, the setup was almost exact except for the turbo kit, i sold him my motor, turbo kit, intercooler, PFC, and fuel system.
Edit: forgot to tell you, make sure you realize how much ground your covering, stuff comes at you much faster. its weird at first, just pay attention to it, make sure you have good brakes!

I'm wondering the same thing. I can't wait
I just picked up my 500R and will hopefully have it installed in a few weeks.
I put some wider tires in the rear to make sure I hook up when I get on it
We'll have to exchange notes when we get our cars done.
