Is a water cooled center section really needed? Do any of you guys run a water cooled turbo? Open to whatever opinion you have.
thanks

I run a water cooled T60-1, my personal experience has been better turbo reliability. I burned up a dry turbo in less than 3K, the water cooled unit is still going strong after 5K. The down side is that it increases the heat load on your cooling system.

60-1 you say... Thats the compressor I'm looking at getting for my stock cosmo engine. Well here's what I was told I should get, 60-1, .7 comp housing, p-trim turbine, .84 split turbine housing. Is your's close to that? If the water cooled center added that much life to your turbo I think I'd be a fool not to get one also seeing how this is going to be mainly a street car.

The water cooled housings are supposed to extend bearing life by 2 times. It also keeps the turbo cooler and the motor oil does not break down as quickly. Therefore, you technically don't have to change you oil as often. I read this was first used when turbos were put on production car for the general public who might not always change their oil every 2-3 thousand miles, as recommended for a turbo charged vehicle. It is just another way to make the car more reliable.
