Arrow Wastegate: plumbed or not

What do you reccommend to plumb it to the downpipe or not and why?

Will the noise bother you? I had planned on plumbing but decided not to after realizing it didn't bother me. Performance wise unplumbed is ideal.

I have never heard my car (standing outside while the car drives by) at wot with the WG open, I would probably plumb after hearing how obnoxious it sounds.

Plumbed because an open wastegate is very very annoying and loud.

I say drive it open first so you can realize how loud it really is. I initially wanted it open and drove it like that for a day. You have no idea how ridiculously loud it can be. However, depending on where you are or personal preference it might not bother you. Think open exhaust + wooshing sound. After hearing it, I got it plumbed the next day.

I think ill just get it plumbed because it was bad enough that i use to get a exhaust ticket once a month, I definitly dont need another reason.

I love the way it sounds with the WG dumped. If your not flying around in boost all the time its not that bad. It is loud though....

I ran my HKS wastegate completely open (not even a dump pipe) for a couple thousand miles. It bothered me the first few times I heard it but then I personally got used to it. However, it always had me worried about attracting attention. One time I was driving some back roads with a friend who has an Eclipse with nitrous. He was in front of me and sprayed his nitrous and he told me he couldn't even hear his own exhaust... and remember, he was in front of me.

The first time I heard a rotary with open wastegate ( friend's FD) I couldn't even hear the exhaust coming out of my n/a 2nd gen with dual N1's

Eclipse with nitrous? Did his diamond plate floor boards fall out and did he weld his intake manifold bolts after you guys were done racing?

Open wastegates are LOUD and attract wrong attention and are annoying not only to me as a driver, but to EVERYONE withen a 1/4~1/2 mile radius. It gives import people a bad name. Once an import is seen or heard with a ridiculous exhaust note, we all get clumped into that "rice" group. It ruins it for everyone lol.

You can run it open, but put a muffler on it - some porches actually had setups like that back in the day!

I run a muffler, but to be honest its still fairly loud I'm going to add a little diffuser to the inside of the muffler since its straight through and see what that does. But its quieter overall, although arguably more work then re-routing it...

Mine (old pic though, different manifold now):

I have mine open. I love the sound. My exhaust is quiet until I'm WOT and the wastegate vents. Try it first, its not that bad. And who really cares how loud it gets when you stomp on it?

The first time I took my buddy for a ride after the single turbo conversion he said he was terrified, not only because the car was accelerating so rapidly but because it was like having someone next to you screaming at you. I got a kick out of that.

I also agree that being a ricer is a different group. If you're making noise as your pulling away from a viper, you aren't a ricer. On the other hand if you making a bunch of racket and a guy on a bicycle pedals past you then yes you would be a ricer.

On the other hand, its also cool if you can blow by that viper silently
