Wastegate muffler installed

After 6 months of running an open wastegate I finally grew tired of it so decided to put the muffler off of my Yamaha Warrier 4 wheeler on the dump tube to see how it sounded. The muffler was actually a Supertrap aftermarket with a removable baffle. I took the baffle out to make sure I didn't hinder the flow. Somehow it fit great under there. I squeezed it in next to the main exhaust. It is a little louder in the car cause it now exits right under the pasenger seat and gives an enexpecting passenger quite a scare. I am sure it is quieter out side the car, since before people have said that riding next to me with an open WG it sounded like putting your ear up to a sub-machine gun. The car sounds alot like my Warrier inside. If it sounds that way outside the car I will look for a better exhaust, but this is what I could come up with Saturday.

PS. The bungie cord was temporary.

A 4 wheeler muffler and a bungie cord on a 7. You sure you're from Carmel?

Why not just do the piping back into the exhaust mod? With that mod my RX6 and Apexi wastegate are quiet as stock.

I have heard conflicting stories that this increases back pressure in the exhaust. I just didn't want to risk it with the amount of boost I will be running. I also like hearing the WG open so I know it's healthy.

Would a wastgate muffler really get that hot? Seems like the WG would absorb alot of heat and it is closed most of the time anyway.

Aren't those bungy cords going to melt?

I wouldn't really think it would get that hot either unless you are on the track where the WG is open a lot. How much exhaust actually goes out the WG?

Not at all. esp if you race on tracks where there is Noise Limits... helps a ton.

Yes they did, but they were only there to hold it in place for the test run. I secured it with metal brackets.

Does the bike muffler produce less backpressure than the piping back into the exhaust mod, when using a 3 in exhaust system from DP, through MP and out?

The bike muffler is just a baffle, so I doubt there is any restriction. Plus, WG restriction would just mean boost creep, DP restriction means HP loss.

late 70's to mid 90's porsche turbos run a seprate muffler for the wastegate, you can usually find them for a reasonable price because they take them off and run them open. Check www.pelicanparts.com in the classifieds section. the muffler is only 5 or 6 inches long and about 3 inches in diameter.

I found one that was for sale and that has a pic. I might be interested in getting one of these now.

Someone should get one of these, and let us know how it turns out. I would get one but my car is no where near being done.
