Wastegate flow direction question
Has anyone ever seen or know if you can feed an external wastegate from the side and have it discharge from the bottom?

I've never heard of anybody doing that, but it seems like it might work. Still, I would try to avoid that setup and proceed with caution if it could not be avoided. The things I would be worried about is that it might behave strangely as the exhaust pressure would be holding the valve shut rather than helping to open it (might respond slowly or something). Also, it would seem to expose the diaphragm to more heat since you'd always have hot exhaust in there (though perhaps it wouldn't matter much since it wouldn't be flowing when the valve is closed).

My response of "yes" means he can mount it any way he wants to. The inlet side must remain "inlet", and the exhaust side must remain "outlet". I don't think it will work if you reverse them, and why would you try?
Those cannot be reversed. My Wastegate is mounted amlost horizontally, with the exit flowing down.

Because the wastegate flange on my manifold matches the flange on the side of the wastegate. I'm wondering if it were designed to be mounted that way, or if someone welded the wrong flange on it.

Yup, wrong flange. In light of that info, you should fix the situation and run it the right way in regards to the inlet and oulet. I thought you had some crazy packaging problem or something.
