Turbonetics t61 failure rate question???
I had a new Turbonetics T61 installed 3 weeks ago. This is the one with the bullet sticking out of the front housing. While on the dyno the other day the boost controller started acting weird. We thought we had a boost leak somewhere. After checking every possible place for leaks we couldn't find one. We decided to remove the air-filter from the turbo and quickly found our problem. The bullet on the front of the turbo was bent side ways. This of course through off the balance of the turbine wheel. I am not going to bore you with the rest of the details but the turbo is being sent back for warranty repair or replacement. The turbo had 300 miles tops on it.
Now for my questions has anyone heard of this happening? If so what was the cause? Defect?

What do you mean by bullet? The compressor nut on my T-66 looked like a bullet I guess, is that what you're looking at? I've heard of turbos being shipped with loose compressor nuts before but no specific problems with the T-61, its been and still is a great street/strip turbo.
On another subject, do you know the dude with the Red FD with "Red Rkt" tags? I saw him at RCR a few weeks back.

Yeah, do you know if it was loose beforehand? The T-61 is a pretty robust unit in itself, its seems like a few people in the supra community had loose compressor nuts lately.
