Turbo Rebuild
What prices have you guys gotten on t4 rebuild kits? I'd need one for a bigshaft turbo with a 360 thrust bearing. Turbonetics sells a complete one for $180.
The turbo just had a little side to side play, no front to back. Parts all look to be in good shape and the shaft is free of any signs of abuse. The Turbine wheel is being replaced so i figured why not rebuild.
Think i can safely get away with just a new thrust bearing, thrust collar, and journal bearings?
Also the journal bearings are held in place by odd looking clips that do not have two holes in them (so forget using retaining clip pliers), I'm not sure how I should remove these and can i replace them with regular retaining clips from say Turbonetics? The turbo is a Turbonetics T04B bigshaft.
Anyone care to throw any tips my way for the rebuild? I'm going to do it myself because I cannot justify the hundreds of dollars compnaies charge for the process. Turbos are not very intricate. I'm having a shop balance the entire assembly but will be assemblying the CHRA myself.
Couple assembly questions:
Do you just use some clean oil when assembling?
Is thread locker required on the compressor nut (mine has the left-hand thread option)?
Any helpful tips will be very much appreciated.

with the price of the kit and tools required + $balancing$...I'd call bryan @ bnr, he'll set you up nice...and should beat any price you've been quoted, and you won't be dissappointed.
I know thats not what you want to hear, but I tore my turbo down and that was my process, hahaha!

I did some calling around today and got some new figures. $160 for the rebuild kit, and i can get the wheels balanced locally for $52.50 (individually then as an assembly).
I'll give Bryan a call about the rebuild kit and tang housing I'll be buying. BTW: what is his number, it seems their site is down?

Is there a phone number I can reach you at, i also need ot pick up a tang. hosuing with a 3" v-band outlet.
Also excuse me for the ignorance but you are "Bryan of BNR"?

So shoudl I wait to call? I don't doubt your ability, but right now I'm calling aroudn to reputable shops and comparing prices. PM me prices if you get a chance for a tang .84 Q-trim housing with a 3" v-band. Also a rebuild kit if you sell just the kit.

360 thrust bearing upgrade is $50. Turbine housing is also $185 if we build your turbo. 3" e piece vband kit is $100, extra $30 to weld the turbine ring on your turbine housing.
$300 shipped includes small or large shaft t3, t4, t3/t4 turbos, non BB...
I also highly recommend that we coat your turbine wheel and turbine housing on the inside...

well I've found the turbine housing (.84 tang divided) for $145 locally with the 3" vband already casted on it. Also I'll be doing the rebuild myself. It seems liek no one is able to beat my local prices. Bryan at BNR doesn't deal much with big shaft stuff, so he didn't have the parts to help me, but he did offer some knowledge. He advised against the use of the q-trim with the compressor wheel i have Super H from Turbonetics (just a hair smaller than a 60-1).
Anyone have any opinions on my setup?
