Here's what I was told when I ask the welder to do the same thing you just described:

"I see what you are saying but can't think of how to pull it off with out weakening the manifold. All that heat put into a small area combined with not being able to gas perge it on the jig would not yeald good results..."

that is true, that's alot of heat going in to an area that has already seen mucho heat from previous welding. spacers are like 20 bucks i think. you can get away with one spacer on the stock studs but it is best to get longer ones. nothing crazy :)

You will get MUCHO mas clearance if you use a spacer between the turbo and the manifold; altough it requires 2 turb flanges, couple of inches of tubing, and a welder.

Not saying that doesnt work...but i dont think you are going to have near the flow characteristics as you would with just using the spacer at the motor...

You won't get any clearance at all by using the spacer at the motor; been there, done that; and got my custom spacer :)

ok i got my spacer and i come close to about 1/8th of an inch tospace between the lim and the turbo hotside

now i will just put a turbo blanket and should be fine right

What do you consider "safe", 1/4 of an inch?

I understand that "more" is better; what's not enough?

Your turbo is sitting very weird. My t66 was actually close on the compressor, not the hotside. Did you do gasket-spacer-gasket-turbomanifold? And as long as its not touching, i cant see a problem, its not like the turbo moves without the motor...

+1.. my compressor housing almost sat touching the intake manifold.. but the hotside had plenty of room... Id be more concerned with heat from the hotside sitting that close though... Maybe a turbo blanket would work..?

ceramic coat that hotside as well as through a blanket on it. THen ceramic coat your lower intake manifold. That aught to do it.

The question is, will the ceramic coating last under the blanket?

signofinfinity 03-03-07 02:16 PM

.... blanket or ceramic.... not both

hondahater 03-03-07 05:24 PM

I've heard some people say that and then I've heard other people say it's ok. The person that said it was ok has www.wwrturboinjection.com and has plenty of fast cars that he says all have ceramic coated housings and a blanket with no problems.

I'll let you be the test guy :bigok: ;)

hondahater 03-04-07 07:26 AM

coating isn't expensive, I don't mind being the test guy at all. :)
