Exclamation Turbo fitment issues!!!

I just dropped in my motor with an HKS cast iron exhaust manifold and a turbonetics 62-1 turbo and the compressor housing is hitting the fender wall.

Has any one had this problem before or do i need to take off my turbo and after the motor in then put the turbo on and it will fit better?

here's some pics give me some ideas before i beat this wall up!

Well, your running a 2nd gen FC manifold in a 3rd gen. Want a turbo to fit in a 3rd gen bay, get a 3rd gen manifold. As for fitment now if you intend to make it work, you can gain some clearance by clocking the turbo compressor discharge down. You can also make clearance via BFH method (Big ******* Hammer) denting you engine bay slightly. You could always shave some off your engine flange side and turbo flange side from your manifold (I wouldn't take more then 1/8" from either surface). Using one, or perhaps all the described methods should make it fit, that and maybe fiddling with your engine mounts.

or you can make an extender pipe between the turbo and the manifold that moves it up and/or forward

i agree w/ revvin..... easy solution is to just use a hammer to bang the wheel well away from the turbo, then just cover it w/ some heat shielding, and viola! a turbo that fits, and nobody will ever see the hammer dents

You're not even close. Get a new manifold-it will be a lot less hassle than cutting into the frame rail/shock tower. Take it from someone that has done it :p
