Angry Turbo Doesn't fit

Hey guys,

Just pulled out my GT3574 that was used for fitment and was going to use a freshly rebuilt T3/4 Hybrid turbo...

The housings on both the hot and "cold" side hit the side of the body, and the turbo won't even fit...

Can I pound in the frame/side a little bit to get it to fit? It wouldn't be more than 1-1.5 inches for both housings. to let 'er slide in.

OR wtf do I do next? new manifold? new turbine housing that I wouldn't even know if it fit, or hell where to get it??

Kind of pissed about the whole thing right now, so sorry if my questions came out rude.... $4k into the car and it still sits I hate/love this car. 60/40 right now.

Make a new manifold or modify the existing one, don't ruin your cars body.

if I wantd to use the existing manifold it would require almost 4 inches of lift. I cant even see how the manifold could e adjusted to get it to fit....

Are you saying "don't ruin your car's body" for aesthetic/resale/feel bad for my car reasons or safety reasons?

After a little more reading I have come up with this:

I have an on center turbo exhaust housing, and the a-spec manifold, I am either going to have to bash in the frame rail a little bit to get it to fit, OR find a exhaust housing for the .69 trim in the tangential fashion (haven't seen one yet,) OR buy a manifold that that works with an on-center housing and also with my FD.

I'd LOVE to bash the frame rail in a bit as it's free. I can't find the exhaust housing because I don't think it has been made, last but not least... an on-center manifold for the FD.

Can I bash the frame rail without making it less safe? I don't care about look, or resale because I just don't. I don't want it to be much less safe though.

Any ideas guys?

Good luck trying to crumple in the frame rail with a hammer, that is not going to happen. You would have to zip cut a big notch in it to make any real difference- which is ridiculous just to fit a turbo.

You said that you used a gt35 to do all of your fitting? Just run the GT35 then. If it needs a rebuild just buy the center core and be done with it.

You can be certain that I will not use a hammer to help the fitment of my s475 1.10.

Personally I would custom make a manifold over deforming the unibody of my car.

Get rid of the on-center turbine housing, it causes A LOT of lag.

Horrible advice.

Think of how much heat the body is going to absorb from the turbine housing if it's that tight of a fit......

I was going to ask if you might possibly have an oncenter housing but then saw that indeed you did. I would get a tang housing. I've tried the oncenter and it makes the turbo not fit and from what I've read the tang housing is mch much much better than any oncenter housing you will get. back sides to turbos aren't hard to find. Good luck!

Ps. I had an oncenter myself and sure enough it did the same thing as yours. As soon as I changed housings it fit just fine.

So what's a good place to buy an exhaust housing for a situation like this?

I recommend a big sledge hammer
Nothing like damaging a $10-18k car over a $800.00 turbo.

Get another turbo, nothing is worth ruining your car for.
