my friends supra is automatic and his dyno #s were around 800 whp.... his car goes 940 et's.... he has a .81 housing and an "r" trim BB with a 80mm compressor also uses nitrous (80 HP) ps...do you have any idea why my graph might have the surge around 5000rpm, we tuned the fuel up/down with no change to the dip...the injectors all come on at 12psi, so we are well past the staged area....its a Haltech f9....thanks

what in the hell is a 'r' trim? i have not come across that one yet but assuming it is bigger than a 'q' he can also get away with that small of an a/r. but seriously the trend right now is gargantuan turbine housings this is where power is made especially on a rotary. you answered your own question 'surge' i am sure your car feels really strong but looking at your dyno you are not making any power (relative of course) over 8500. and since you have a bb turbo this allows you to run an even larger a/r w/o having lag issues, why by a bb turbo and then choke it with a small a/r? rule of thumb is that you can run one size larger on your BB a/r and get the same results as a non BB smaller one!! 680...i am thouroghly impressed with your power but i feel that you got an easy 60+ with a larger properly matched a/r.. yes you will lose maybe 1000 spool up but if you are drag racing it does not matter what power you make when you are out of your power band and judging by your dyno you need to shift at 8300 which should bring your shift point to around 6500 (depending of course on your tranny). so as long as you stay within a 6k and up power band your car will not slow down! unless you shift like my grandmother!!!!!

forgot to answer your question..here is my experience: when ever my BP got to 5 psi over boost it did not matter what i did to the a/f. it was real insensitive to fuel in that if i ran it rich or lean the EGT's would not sway very much. as soon as i dropped boost down to a level where the BP was even the EGT's would rise /fall accordingly. i would say that the 5k area is the point where your BP is beyond boost and starting to choke. i bet that if you were to watch a boost gauge hooked up the the turbine housing this is where the imbalance would start.

Does it really make any sense to compare the turbo of a piston motor (Supra) to that of a rotary? The exhaust charactaristics couldn't be more different.

The rotary has so much exhaust energy big housings are the way to go! With my RX-7 I think I had a 1.0 A/R on my T-78... on my Supra I'm running a T66 Q-trim (with clip) .7 A/R. The piston motor simply doesn't have the exhaust energy that the rotary does. But the theory is still the same...

Small A/R's may spool quicker... but they do choke the motor up top. With a Rotary I'd be going extra big.

I also agree that the real benefit of a single turbo is that big top end. If you want quick spool... you should stick with the stock twins.

I think I might go to a .81 A/R on my supra... hell maybe a .96! haha

Oh ok, well it must be an absolute beast to drive with that amount of power ! Give us some insight into what it's like ?

I assume if you flatten it at over 90mph you get wheel spin on street tires. I know with 560bhp (over 200 less than you have) my car is near undrivable "lots of wheel spin" in a first gen on street tires.

Robert! I tried to contact you via phone and email for the past couple of days on my E-shaft and rotors. It's been over 10 weeks since I sent you the money and I still haven't receive it yet. When will I ever get it? Are you ever at your shop? I called so many times and nobody answers. Trying to keep this in a personal level but you seemed to be hard to find so this is my only option to find you.

Steve
Contact me ASAP or I prefer to have my money back. I can't wait any longer on this.

BTW, I have a 2nd. Gen. Rx-7

[QUOTE: RacerXtreme7 . I'll be running a series 5 large street port with series 6 upper manifold, stainless divided turbo manifold, IC, Wolf 3d, etc. etc. ]

Hence..... no "stock" twins.......

Lets ignore the 400whp part..... linear throttle response and run 11's.

Anyone running a 60 trim with a 1.00 hot a/r?

~Mike.....
