tried searching, need help on best drag/drift turbo
As stated in the title, I tried searching, but no results I could use came up after searching. I need a turbo that is flexible in both drag and drift. Need a turbo capable of at least 400 or so with supporting modifications.
Thanks in advance

Drag & Drift? Those require totally different setups. Drifting is all about having a responsive turbo. Large lagy turbos will be harder to control in the turns when boost hits. So, stock or BNRs would be good for drifting. You can drift with a large single, its just going to be harder. You might also have good results with a 35R with a small A\R. Any GT35R variant with larger A\Rs and larger turbos with more lag would probably be used better for drag racing. So, if I had to pick a turbo to try to do Drag & Drift I'd go with a 35R or A-spec 500R. I'd have a small .82 hotside for when I wanted to go drifting and a larger 1.0+ A/R for when I need more top end when I wanted to goto the strip. Either turbo 35R or 500R will do 400+ to the wheels.
I have a friend running an HKS T04Z and he is claiming he is making 445 rwhp with his supporting mods at 17 psi.
He sais that it is a quick spooling turbo with good highend power. I don't have that much knowledge on this turbo, but if someone can enlighten me on it I would greatly appreciate it.
As for the 500r, I have been looking hard at that turbo and it is looking so far like the kind of turbo I need. Just trying to get as much knowledge as I can before I spend the money.

This sounds very possible. On a side note though, the HKS TO4Z is a pretty expensive unit and you can buy a Garrett unit that is nearly identical for much less. Good luck.

I'm actually looking into the garrett version right now and it seems to be the same thing as you stated. I believe I could possibly tune it for a tad more power for the drag aspect while still spooling fast enough for drifting purposes.
Thanks to everyone who contributed their knowledge, it is greatly appreciated

I say go with a gt35r and a large street port... it'll give you really good response and you'll be in your power range..... my only concern is that drag suspension is completely different from drift. You're better off getting a decent fc for drifting. You're gonna have so many suspension changes going back and forth you'll hate it.
