to4z compressor housing on a to4r

to4z compressor housing on a to4r
is there a way to fit a anti surge compressor housing on a to4r, i know that the to4z is the most likely candidate for this since they are the exact same size, but i also know that they are almost impossible to get without spending the 2k for the turbo.
so are there any other available housings?
im curious because i can hear compressor surge even when im not boosting (i havent boosted my car in 2 months btw) if i suddenly let go of the gas pedal, i instantly hear a couple or a few flutters coming from my enginebay. i also just recently replaced the spring for my greddy type r with a standard spring, i havent really gotten the chance to notice the difference yet, since i havent been able to drive with the windows down

no dis to you but it sounds like you may be heading in the wrong direction if i read your post correctly.
surge is generally when you put your foot down and the compressor makes boost before it creates enough airflow to place it in the anticavitation area of the compressor map. as it cavitates it loads and unloads placing major torque on the central turbo shaft, eventually snapping it. just like axle bounce on a drag start snaps axles.
i doubt that you are getting leftline turbo surge especially when you hear it while not in positive boost. i run two TO4s and i don't have any surge.
it sounds more like your BOV needs adjusting. i run the same BOV, the greddy R, and i have run both springs. since my setup is designed for max 17 psi pump gas boost i run the soft spring and it works great.
i did find a condition, while tuning my setup, that resembled compressor surge but with a little luck and some excellent advice from Cam Worth traced it to a transition problem between my primary and secondary injectors. i didn't notice what you run but if you have a datalogit it shows up on the chart log.

like i said... i just replaced the spring, cuz the heavy spring required me to boost at least 10lbs for it to open, i didnt get a chance to test it out yet though.... i know this because when steve kan was tuning my car he said "your bov was not openning, that fluttering sound you hear is compressor surge", and the adjustment screw was all the way up at the time btw.

i do agree w the diagnosis as set out in post 5. if your BOV isn't opening you will create a backpressure against the compressor anytime you back off the pedal including when you are not in positive boost. FD3boost's comment about adj the BOV is on the money.
the Greddy R has a really stiff High Boost spring and is not appropriate for your needs. i have run it and it did work for me adjusted fully soft. i have changed mine to the soft spring and it works well for street driving. so just back off your adj and you will not need an anti surge housing.
