Question timing and power fc

I'm going to have my car dyno tuned again this Thursday at KDR. Hopefully for 20 psi on c118. I want to become more familiar with the timing so I can undersntad what is going on. As I understand, the leading ignition map on the power fc is a 20x20 cell spread sheet or N's and P's. The N's go across and stand for rpm and the P's go down and stand for pressure(timing). Each cell represents 400 rpm incriments up to 8000 rpm. Is the first cell N01 P01 400 rpm? Say the number in that cell is 5 (random #). Does that mean 5 degrees of timing advance at 400 rpm? What kind of timing curves are you guys running? I want to be safe. I'm seeing numbers in the 40's in some of the higher cells and it scares me. Am I reading this wrong? Is the higher timing for cruising? I've been told to run no more than 16 degrees advance up to your torque peak, then you can advance it a bit. Others tell me that 16 degrees is too aggressive. The trailing map should mirror the leading map, and then have the desired timing split put in? What kind of timing split are you guys running? I've heard 8 degrees is good. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

yes, P is for pressure (boost). I think my PM to you last night was probably overload if you didn't have a grip on how the mapping works yet. Save my PM and review again later...

yes, you have a 20x20 map to work with.
the N's going across are your RPM's.
the P's going down are your vac/boost levels.

each N cell covers a 400 rpm range.
P01 - P10 are vaccuum cells
P11 - P20 are your boost cells

You have a 3bar map sensor so I don't know how many psi/cell your map is setup. If you wana send me a copy of your new 3bar map with settings I can help you out more here.

If you fire up the datalog, goto Inj Map, IGL or IGT map, and turn on "MapTrace" (clickbox) then drive around ... you'll quick be able to see "how the map works" as it will highlight the cell you are reading data from as your drive around.
