throttle body butterflys
hey all, new turbo owner here, longtime N/a.
Im wondering why the throttle body on a turbo- 88, like mine, has all the butterflys closed when the engine is at rest, not running, and the N/A has bottom butterflys open at rest..
on my turbo Ive got the single plate on top and the 2 lower ones in a row, secondaries, on the bottom.
or do they call the 2 ones behind the lower 2 ones secondaries...
my manual doesnt really show. It says the setup for the fast idle cam ,and measure the distance when the 2 bottom front ones start to open,as you open the top single one.. and that is the gap you measure..
or do I have my lingo wrong? any help is appreciated
thanks all
so that delay valve opens up the bottom from secondaries when? why have a delay on it?
plus I got a new turbo inlet downpipe today at mazda.. my original one was like 100 %perfect but the bottom one inch where it connects to turbo was like a baked hard tortilla chip.. gave a vac leak..

on the secondaries, the ones in front are for driveability reasons only (so pointless to me lol). they are amoung one of the things to go when you do the tb mod. whne you get on a off the gas quick they are connected by a spring to the real secondary plates so they open and close slower. this is only to reduce or remove any stubling or jerkiness. the top one opens first to give more low end power. at low rpms you want velocity to make torque to make driving easier. thats why the secondaries wait before they open. understand?
