I know this doesn't help, but this is exactly why I want the "turbo size guide" post I made to be filled out by people and become a sticky post! Then everyone like you and me who wonder these things could just look at it!

I know the max boost of a T78 is a lot higher than a stock engine can handle, probably somewhere in the mid-high 30's.

there are nocomprehensive turbo guides made. each manufacturer can give you some specs on there's but its a pretty closed-mouth industry. the tuners that sell one or the other will know that series well, but may not know the others as well. and may in fact disparage the others, which doesn't educate you veyr well and makes you doubt what they say. on the other hand many of the guys o the list who know a lot about them race them and don;t want to share secrests that they think give them an adge and this is natural.

there are really 5 turbos that people on this list have used and that work well and there is a large knowledge base for. they are the T78, the T-6X series garretts/turbonetics, the T04X series, the Apexi, and the KKK's (which are the newest and least well-known. the T78 probably has the highest power potential, but takes a lot more related mods of more complexity to get everything right (imho). the T04's make a good amount of top end power and there are a lot ofshops on the west coats that do them well. the KKK is the same turbo used by porsche and i would think its a very good bet. ray lockheed sells them and they can be installed by any good shop. ernie T has one and its making a lot of power for him. the T66 style i know the least about, but steve kan runs one and makes a tremendous amount of power. basically, any of these would be a good for someone who's not going for ultimate power. The Apexi could be a good choice since you could kind of go all apexi for Power FC, AVCR, catback, etc. I don't particularly like it though. The KKK is probably my pick were i to do it over, since i suspect it can be made to spool up a little faster, though it won't have the high end of my T78. the T78 is the best known, so there are a lot of maps and people who know how to install it and what to put with it. XS Engrg are the guys for the T04's on the west coast. and that's all i've got. -gordon
