t3/4 bearings vs. ht-18 bearings???

i was advised to post here..

ok the id and od sizes are the same and i have read that the stock center section uses standard t3/4 parts...

but the t3/4 bearings dont have the groove cut around the middle of it for oiling like the stock ones.
1. where can i find replacement bearings with the groove???
2. or should i just machine gooves into the t3/4 bearings???

the thrust bearing and all seem like they are the same

any guidence is nice

i am working on my own hybrid if you were wondering

thanks

Are the grooves cut on the inside or outside of the bearing? I don't recall.

FWIW, I have rebuilt a few ht-18 stock turbos using the Garrett T3/T4 bearing etc without any problems without having to cut any grooves.

If the grooves are on the insaide, don't worry about about it, slap em in and let her boost, if there onthe outside, make sure that if you install them that there will be oil flow to all the holes in the bearing. In other words....... if in the stock center there is only 1 oil suply port per bearing and theres no groove then you will need a groove on the outside of the bearing. If there is a internal groove were the bearing is pressed in, then dont worry about it and use them unmodified.

I hope I didnt just confuse you more.

It doesn't matter...
Why?
Cause Mazda doesn't sell just the bearings.
Unless you an find a "Hitachi" turbo parts shop, you're stuck with the Garrett T3/T4 rebuild parts.

If you really want the groove there, take an old and new bearing to a machine shop and ask them to cut you the groove - problem solved.
