t04r/z question
Gotta 90 turbo rx7.
Is the hks t04r or t04z(ballbearing) fairly streetable with the right porting, i have the supporting mods already and my engines ripped apart so i want to port according to the turbine. I know the t04b 60-1 is the optimal turbo for the fc3s for daily streetdriving but would like to hear opinions on the t04r or t04z, regarding lag and such. i was thinking the .81 a/r cutback version made for the rx7 by hks.
Thanks

Are you trying to stay away from the HKS cast manifold or something? Because there are so many options with using that manifold and other turbo's.
But first of all, how much hp are you shooting for... and boost characteristics... etc?

daily use:13-14 psi (380-400rwhp) only have 91 octane here, dont trust mohawk 94 octane.
after tuning skills get better 15psi-17psi daily use with water injection
High boost:20psi
rwhp: 450-500 the absolute limit and my ports are mild right now to maintain the low end tourqe.95% street driving.
nothing paticular in regards to drag racing, road racing etc.i must of read every single turbo thread on here regarding turbos. t04r/z says can boost 30+psi.Where did you(GoRacer) find advertising for the gt35/40 kit? I do have a ts04 right now sittin at the shop with a divided manifold and greddy type r wastegate that doesnt appeal to me,i may or may not try it and if i dont like it then i'll decide on gt35/40 or t04z and ya i want to try out a bb.

A much cheaper alternative is to use a T66 with HKS cast. However, if you wanted to use a divided housing, it would be better to have a divided manifold made.
Also, a T04R(Z) uses a 66.7mm comp wheel and GTQ exh wheel, which is basically a PT67GTQ(dbb). If you go to www.precisionte.com you will find that turbo listed for about half the price of the HKS version...

I didn't save the links or anything cause I have a 3rd gen but I do remeber reading on replacement bolt on turbos for the FC. I think Power Enterprise was one. I don't know if the GT35R will bolt right on but you can ask www.cheapturbo.com and www.k2rd.com for advise. You can try posting in the 2nd gen forum and also www.fc3s.org
