Surge Tank and Pre-Filter
I figure this is a great place to post this question as well.
I plan on running a surge tank in my FC but want to keep it as simple as possible. I'll be running an older RP intank pump, a Bosch 044 external and I'm already using the Marren fine element (150micron) filter mounted inplace of the stock filter. The intank pump has the factory "sock" on it. How important, or is it even needed, to have a 10 micron or equivalent filter after the surge tank but before the Bosch Filter. The sock was good enough for mazda to filter fuel before the pump, why not in this situation? Fuel will pass through the sock before it goes to the surge tank and the 044 pump. Then the main 150 micron filter before the injectors, before it goes back to the surge tank. To me a 10 micron filter after the sock seems redundant, yet I always see it so there must be a good reason for it.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

Yes I understand that & it will stay for sure. What I'm confused about is the need for a second filter after the sock before the main bosch pump. It seems almost redundant to me but I ALWAYS see them. Theoretically all the in the surge tank would have already been through the sock at leat once.

Yeah, I didn't read through your entire thread before I responded, just quickly scanned it.
Redundacy isnt a bad thing, your just adding a slight cost to it, and you seemed to have already purchased the filter so why not use it?
Perhaps if your first pumps lets go or deteriorates, or theres a small piece of teflon tape or bits of a deterioriating O-ring the filter will save your second pump. Or perhaps any kind of comtaninants from the fuel going through your entire fuel system some debri may be picked up. After all, after the fuel goes through your 044, it goes through darn near every bit of fuel system you have, pump-> fuel supply lines->rails->injectors->regulator->return line->back to the surge tank and then back to the 044 UNFILTERED.

Good point - I did think about it than thought well hell - all the lines after the pump are going to be filtered but it doesn't take much at all to fubar a pump. PLUS I have pulled pumps where no sock was present Yeah - I'll just do it, thanks Mike.

I think its a good idea, but the thign that does cross my mind is restriction.
Not simply adding the filter will make any notable restriction, but I'd think more frequent maintenance would be necessary (not really a bad thing, just mentioning) in order to keep the system flowing to its potential since there are now more spots for bottle necks ie. clogging filters.
but if it were me, I'd filter it
