So my clutch is on the way out....

I have an ACT SS clutch and a SR motorsports 11lb flyswheel on my turbo FC. After 3 years of use, its starting to smell more and not hold as well....

So my questions are as follows:

1 Can i just put in a new clutch disc like the one that came with it? If so, where do i get one (not listed on SR's website)

2 Do i have to get a whole new clutch assembly? Would the pressure plate wear out for any reason, or just the disc itself?

3 Anyone have a Extreme ACT pressure plate? How is it compared to the SS plate i have now. I think the pedal effort is easy on the clutch i have now and would like more clamping power, however i drive this car daily and i dont want something that is an absolute bitch in traffic (I.E. you cant slip it for smooth starts).

Some punk bitch in a yellow honda CRX with lots of mods on Sunrise at 11am started revving and passing me while i was cruising on home from a long day at work. I wouldnt have done anything, except that the light ahead turned red and we were the only ones there. He started it, i ended it. Ablolutely destroyed him. Since there was no one ahead of me and i didnt have to worry about anyone pulling out, i just watched him as i launched and continuted to just look until i hit 3rd (by that time, i coudnt turn back any further to see him). At the next light he pretended to be playing with somethign in his car and not look at me. Funny.

Suffice to say, my clutch isnt holding very well anymore after that fun little jaunt. Sorry for the rambling, but i figured people might enjoy the story.

So what about those clutch questions!!!!

Definetly don't recommend the extreme plate for a daily driver. I had one and took it out for the heavy duty plate. The extreme requires a lot of pressure, and it is a bitch in traffic. Try doing a search in your area for a shop that rebuilds clutches, they should be able to test the pressure plate for you to see if its still good. No sense pulling a tranny twice. Would also replace throw out and pilot bearings.

I totally disagree, the Extreme PP w/a stock FD disc, and a new friction disc on your flywheel will give you stock slippability, and last far longer than your current set-up. That said, how many miles did you put on the car in the three years? If that is your typical mileage, why not just freshen up what you've been running? You would need a new PP, a new friction disc, and an FD disc(lasts better than the FC disc), plus release, and pilot bearings. Do not re-use any of the parts I mentioned without having a good mechanic check the run-out. I will tell you that after checking the components you will be replacing all of the above. So, that's my .02. Carl
