Single Turbo + Stock Motor?!?!

I have a mazda reman engine with 20k miles on it and I"m planinng on going single pretty soon. The engine is in perfect shape, I will be able to afford to go single with the supporting mods. How much in hp and 1/4 mile difference is there between single turbo with stock engine vs. single with bridgeport??

HUGE difference in power!!!
Don't forget the difference in reliability, longevity, fuel mileage, sound level, coolness, price, etc.

To compare power, let's use a T78 @ 18 psi as an example...

Stock engine: 375-425 rwhp
Bridgeported: 540-590 rwhp

yeah but what kind of idle to you get with a bridgeport? is it smooth? how long will the motor last? At most, I would do a street port, if the car is not a full blown race car...

BRIDGE PORT ALL THE WAY.

well of you think about it, if you want lots of power u have to sacrafice something right? but with bridge port and right tunning and boost u can hit well over 550hp+ depends on what gas ur using also.

my next engine is going to be bridge
and some alcohol

o yeah but if u want only 440hp that's about 11 sec street car, pretty fast, but ain't fast enough 500+ 10 sec

Bridgeport? Supporting mods for a bridgeported T-78 would include a new tranny and a ford 9"

Anybody know the mods on ito's bp t2?

440 is 11 sec if you are a good driver, I have seen people with that much still do 12s.

Quite the opposite. Ever heard a V8 engine with serious camshafts in it? Like that. Very loppy... BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP... tones of overlap. So loppy infact that your idle is constantly bouncing over a range of about 200 rpm. A bridgeproted engine idles around 1300-1600 rpm. Don't forget the volume - a bridgeported rotary is going to be one of the loudest vehicles on the road. Don't consider putting a decent exhaust on it to quiet it down either, straight flow exhaust is how a bridgeported engines makes all it's power in the first place (all rotaries for that matter). By loud I'm talking just as loud, or louder, than tuned V8s with straightpipes.

In a street driven car, a bridgeported 13B running a large turbo isn't going to be the longest lasting motor. 30,000 miles is tossed around a lot for bridgeported turbo engine, and 50-60k miles seems to be a popular number for bridgeported NA engines.

Remember, there will always be a tradeoff when modifying a car between the performance and the streetability. You gotta ask yourself, "Do I want 400 rwhp very streetable, or 600 rwhp and pretty streetable?"

To see/hear what a bridgeport idles like, go here: http://www.vosko.net/media/rotary/
Click on "Full Bridge Idle.WMV"
That was Soul Assassins car - 13B with large single turbo (T51 KAI) that made 620 rwhp.

yes but doesn't bridge porting require you to CNC?

I don't believe a car that can only go 30k is a street car. Street port all the way.
