Unhappy Single turbo now NO BOOST

Hey guys,

So I've done the research and gone single as my secondary twin went. It seemed like a straight forward build, Garrett T04B, upgrade intercooler. Interrupt me at any time here.
I have stock fuel management and injectors, intake and exhaust all upgraded, mid, down, and IC pipes as well as Blitz SBC.

When the single system went in and rats nest all capped off, all is good until I go to drive the car and the car will not boost whatsoever! as soon as any boost goes to build the car seems to cut fuel off and studder, so it's running just motor.

Did I leave anything out as everything checks good with my mechanic and we did leak tests and turbo spins, no check engine light, all seems normal, just cannot produce any boost under load.

I don't think that I need upgraded fuel injectors or engine management if I'm going low boost, however correct me if I'm wrong, DO I NEED an ecu upgrade or engine management?

Thanks for the advise.

haha newbs..

Yes you most certainly need upgraded fuel and engine management with proper tuning on any single turbo upgrade.... You are really lucky you haven't blown your motor yet trying to run on boost. Get an Apexi PFC(relatively cheap & plug and play), some larger secondary injectors and get it tuned! GL

Didn't blow the motor as I wasn't getting any boost (yet) so I guess that's a good thing. I just wondered how come there was no mention of this with upgrading and did not run into any one else stating that either.

I assumed I would have needed engine management, however still curious if I could get away without secondaries as I think they're 750cc so that should be sufficient. PFC is already on the way and will be tuned to get it running.

It's RHD so hopefully I don't need any cable adaptors for the PFC.

Thanks so much for the info and yes newbs suck LOL

secondaries are 850's and yes you can get away without upgrading fuel but you may run out of injector much sooner than you think max duty cycle 85% pushing it at 90% pending the air flow of that t04b compared to the stock twins.

Good advice, now where was all this when I was reading the single setup sections? I will be running low boost as the motor is stock and half through it's life cycle. Once tuning on the PFC is done will have a better picture if the secondaries will be able to handle the output if the fuel pump doesn't need upgrading first (or may just get complete fuel upgrade kit, rails, pump, etc. and be done with it).

Love the comments, keep em coming guys. Have a good weekend!

The stock ECU goes into error code meltdown without the many loads that were removed with going single turbo. You did not do your research!

Get a PFC ASAP and please read up on it.

If you are using your stock computer and eliminated the rats nest, it will freak out. The computer needs a couple of the sensors from the rats nest to remain plugged in (forget wich ones) or it will run in limp mode. Get a powerFC and get it tuned, the car will be WAY better on gas, have better throttle response and be more reliable.

You don't need fuel injectors or a fuel pump, the stock fuel system and stock 850cc secondaries are easily used for 300rwhp builds on the FD as long as your have a fresh fuel filter and a clean stock fuel system. Anything over 300rwhp though and I'd upgrade to 1300's for secondaries.

I have a similar build to yours, (see sig) your turbo should be good for about 340rwhp & 15psi. with 1300cc secondaries you can hit that easy. But trust me, 300rwhp is WAY faster than stock. You might not even worry about doing all the fuel system upgrades.

CEWRX, my stock ECU hasn't given any error codes whats so ever (luckily) and I haven't run the car since, I ran like normal except any time there was load to boost. I talked to a lot of people, read the forums and honestly did not see any one going single that mentioned using a PFC, just seemed like an upgrade that was commonplace like (downpipe, intake, etc) however the problem is being corrected right now as we speak.

AZRIEL- you're right as well and thanks to the both of you for your info as it narrows many things down for me and each day that passes makes me realize how much I messed up and need to get it corrected. The info on the fuel system is awesome as I will only be running about 300 hp so didn't see a need to upgrade fuel system.
I have a FEED programmed HKS Fcon coming from Japan that was set to 1.2bar, so that'll be a good base for me. I'll keep you guys posted,
Cheers.
