Single turbo exhaust setup...

Hi there,

I'm going with a single turbo setup (GT3574R ball bearing) real soon. I currently have the stock twins with a 3" ceramic coated downpipe, 3" Pettit high-flow cat and a 3" Racing Beat muffler...

I was wondering what would be the ideal setup for a single turbo. I was thinking of removing the 3" high-flow cat and installing a 3" resonated mid-pipe and keeping the 3" Racing Beat muffler...

Would this work? I want the best possible flow but i don't want my car to sound like a riceburner either =)

I appreciate any input, thanks.

it all depends on what you want out of your car, but cats act as a restriction for turbo cars, but do quiet them down considerably, so there are trade offs of course.

It's not my daily driver so i'm fine with getting rid of the cat and going with a resonated mid-pipe, but i'm just not sure about what to do with my current 3" Racing Beat muffler. I've heard and researched that it might be a restriction when going with a single turbo because of the muffler design, but then again, if i can keep it would be great since it seems like the ShineAuto RE Street Diffuser (which is the one i have installed) was made for the Racing Beat muffler lol...

If i go with another muffler, looks like i will have to hack the diffuser a bit then...

Is the Racing Beat muffler ok with a single turbo setup? It has 3" piping...

since noise is a concern, you need to get a downpipe which recirculates the external wastegate

Noise is not really a concern (but don't want to sound like a loud Civic either), as i'm not recirculating the wastegate back to the exhaust. I just want to know if i could keep my 3" Racing Beat muffler with the single turbo setup, and if not, which other mufflers can i choose from that are going to clear the ShineAuto RE Street Diffuser...

I'd keep the RB muffler, you have it, everything else is louder, and it seems to flow ok too

There are threads on this if you search. I spent a few hours yesterday researching this actually so I'll save you the trouble and get another post under my belt.

Other than Racing Beat, Greddy SP2 and Tanabe Touring Medallion are going to be the quietest cat backs available. If you want loud, get a titanium cat back.

Stock cat will also muffle sound the most. After that the RX7 Store resonated mid pipe is the quietest. Then the Bonez hi-flow cat. Yes, it seems wrong, but that is what I read.

This is all what I gleaned from reading threads, not first hand knowledge, so take it with a grain of salt.

This car has a 3.5" downpipe, 3.5" resonated midpipe, open dump wastegate and a RB single tip catback. We removed the catback/midpipe and picked up 9rwhp. At low boost/power levels you don't need a large catback with an open dump tube.

If you have an open dump doesn't make a huge difference at low boost.

Thanks for your response, but i did search and found nothing, the search engine on this forum is not efficient. That's why i asked.

Again, i appreciate your response, but you did not answer my question. I just asked if i could keep my 3" Racing Beat muffler with the single turbo setup, and if not, which other mufflers can i choose from that are going to clear the ShineAuto RE Street Diffuser. I need both form and function. It has to flow properly for a single turbo setup and it has to clear my diffuser.

Your response is greatly appreciated guys, but nobody has answered my question so far. Hopefully i can hear from someone that has my diffuser with a different exhaust other than the Racing Beat.

I have a 4" exhaust with the same diffuser.
It fit with some minor trimming which you cant tell until you get under the car.

I wouldn't let the shine diffuser restrict you from deciding what exhaust to go with.
