GT35R Vs. Apexi RX6.......

On a over-street ported motor will all of the same tuning/mods which would produce the most usable power....quickest in the quarter...

How much more laggy is the 1.06 A/R than the .84??
Anyone have any dynos?? (GT35R)

!! Has anyone tried a Garrett GT30R with a 42R cartrige...I know of a 944 owner that is using one and is producing supercharger responsiveness and crazy power....

I agree with poweraxel. The only thing I will add is that the GT35R is a T3 hotside and the RX6 is a T4 hotside. That alone will help you out in the power department. I know that the RX6 kits spool FAST and produce really good power. With a big streetport, I would almost be afraid that the GT35R would choke the port on the top end. There's my .02

Not to step on toes but the RX6 is not a T4, its a T3 and it really starts to drop hard above 20psi, the 35R is eff all the way up to 29psi and there are some who have run them up to 35psi and still made power. the .82 and 30R are just too small unless your going for under 400whp.

Thanks for the clear up Sean. I was under the impression that the RX6 was a T4 hotside. Oops. And you didn't step on toes. I have TONS to learn just like everyone else. But would either one then choke a large street port on the top end?

are we actually talking about a 35r/40 hybrid or a striaght 35r? does anyone even run a straight 35r? the rx6 needs more publisized competition in the "small bb turbo" dept.

The 35R is a 35/40 I wrote along winded version about how this came to be in another post. Garretts in house designation for the 35/40 is 35R. When I needed to order new parts for the 35/40's it was always cross-referenced with 35R part numbers.

so howcome the 35/40 was supposed to be a custom turbo from australia or something? i mean, the parts are garratt so of course they will have garrett part numbers but if the turbo was made by garrett why do they come from australia?

until recently, Garrett (U.S.) didnt carry the GT35R here. As stated before the aftermarket sector of Garrett/Honeywell only accounts for 2-3% of there total sales. U.S. distributors couldnt source that part # until now

The 35/40 name comes from the style comp cover more than anything, not wheel sizing. They just became a Garrett USA product within the past 6 months or so as poweraxel said. For awhile Australia was about the only place you could get them. HKS did have (prototype/bullshit) 35R's, but you would pay HKS pricing for them if you could get them. A few times when supply, due to Garretts way of production runs, was low some shops made 35/40's which weren't as eff.(wheel ratios) as 35R's, but you(consumer) didn't really know because how often did you have two side by side to see the difference.They weren't bad turbos don't get me wrong just not as eff.(marginally) as a 35R. Hope that helps.

Possibly dumb question. I thought the RX6 was an IHI turbo, and thus unrelated to Garrett's product lines... T4 hotside? Just using the same flanges, or is there something I'm not getting?

Sean, what are the exact specs for the 35r? Me thinks the 35r has a larger exhaust side than the rx6. The a/r on both is 1.06 but I believe the wheel size on the 35r is larger. I have the specs at work on the rx6 and they unfortunately pulled them from the apex website so I am unable to post them right now. I would like to see them side by side. I believe the compressor side is the same. I have the b model with the tcw77ls compressor side. It has a 82mm major and I forget the minor.

The rx6 has a different shape inlet for the exhaust. it is rectangular and seems to be a tad bit smaller than a t3. It is undivided and the manifold is not equal length.

BTW, a 35R with a T4 does exist, made by Garrett, available, when??? But I know somebody who has one(shop car). Patience, patience. In the mean time, I have ditched my T66 .81 Q trim, in favor of a Garrett 67mm with a GTQ wheel non BB, and undivided .81. I have to make a DP to test it since my DP is 4", and the turbo has a 3" V Band... carl Byck
