R1? How do You know????

Hi everybody, I just bought a 1993 TT RX-7 that is supposebly an R1. Now my question is how can you tell if its an R1 version? From the vin#? Its got no sunroof, suede seats the spoiler and no rear window wiper, and its Red, but i wanna be sure that its an R1. For some reason theres a doubt in my mind and i thought you guys could and would prolly help me out. Thank you for reading this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Look for dual oil coolers (stock), probably no bose tube, stock strut tower bar.

However, all those can be added on, so the best way is to call the dealer/parts and give them the VIN and ask them.

R1's came with cloth seats, no BOSE stereo system, no sunroof, nice spoiler, dual oil coolers, strut bar, and an upgraded suspension.

There are two kinds of cloth, though:
- R-model (R1, R2) suede-like cloth
- base model black checker (carbon-fiber-looking) cloth

All R1s have a 5-speed manual transmission, and come with a second oil cooler on the passenger side of the car (look in the hole in the bumper -- you'll see a cooler if its an R1, an auto-tranny cooler if it has an auto tranny [and thus isn't an R1], or the hole will be blocked off with plastic if it is a non-R model with a manual tranny). Under the hood, there will be a red (or black?) shock tower bar if it is an R1. My guess from the information provided so far is that you do have an R1.
