question regarding the SARD fuel pressure regulator

i recieved the newer version of the SARD fuel pressure regulator for a customer's car and it appears it is not functioning properlyand the instructions are all in japanese...

i double checked the fuel system integrity by clamping the fuel return line from the rails and it holds 70+ PSI so i know it is not an issue with the fuel delivery. the FPR is located just before the return trip to the fuel tank but the issue i am having is no matter how i hooked up the FPR it only built up 10PSI max and bled off pressure immediately once the pump stopped operating which i know is not right.

now i will go over how i tested the unit, there is 2 port, an inlet and an outlet, i assumed maybe i had them hooked up backwards so i switched the lines for inlet and outlet but nothing changed. now onto the next step, i turned the FPR adjustment screw(at the base of the vacuum nipple) all the way in and all the way out with the lines installed both ways and there was no change in pressure. lastly i checked the vacuum, which shouldn't really be of concern since the pressure was FAR too low to even bother with this but it was present and accounted for.

so after testing i concluded the FPR is in fact faulty, can anyone tell me if the this seems accurate or am i missing some invisible adjustment screw somewhere?

i suppose i could have misconstrued the pictures but it looks like they have the gauge on the top and the inlet and outlets on the sides, this could be where the problem lies...i hope not otherwise a simple 4" device will wind up taking 20" of cubic space..

That is a Sard in the picture above. They also make a race model that is at least twice as fat. I am not aware of any new version.

Top (7 looking bend) is the vacuum connection (and adjustment nut).
Side is intake and one gauge port which should be pluged.
Bottom is return.

From what I remember in FSM with vacuum off pressure should be 36psi and with vacuum it should be 38psi.

My mechanic swore mine was bad and I bought a second one but he swore that was bad also and I had to dagnose it myself and it turned out the lines were wrong. My systoms were not holding and irradic pressure. Once I corrected the lines, it held fine and now I have a spare.

thanks for the input, i wish they would have some documentation in english as well. i could swear the pictures in the instructions showed the gauge opposite the vacuum port but basically hooking the ports up were just educated guesses since there is no online documentation anywhere for this FPR in english.

You should be able to use the instructions for the US built ones. The ports and vacuum are the same, just the shapes are block vs spaceship (lol). Oh, you will find out the gauge port (that has a plug) is not tapped correctly or rather as deeply as it needs to be. That may have to be retaped if used. Please post when you get it worked out for future searches.
