Pics of my GT35/40
Here are some pictures of the Garrett GT35/40 I ordered from Australia:

For those who are concerned with oil restriction. This picture shows a close up of the oil feed in the center housing rotation assembly (CHRA) right next to the Garrett badge. You don't need to hack an adapter with a Holley jet :) J |

Here is the picture of the compressor of the turbo. |

Hoses, oil line fittings, exhaust flange, and wastegate flex (joint) line. |

Here is my old HKS SS manifold with the Racing wastegate. Now you see why I need the T3/T4 adapter flange since the HKS manifold has a T4 flange on it. It took me a few sheets of sandpaper to clean that manifold up after I pulled it from the car. |

62-1 Ceramic BB Turbonetics turbo (with the oil drain hose and feed line still attached) compared to the Garrett GT35/40 turbo. |
Its a pitty none of the pictures load.

My R1 got jealous when I took my first pic of the ol' 62-1 in my spare parts bin. J |
you can't link to your C: drive...silly rabbit. Attach them to the forum then link them.
|
oops
|
thanks hedge.
doh! internet 101. I feel like an idiot. Anyhoo... I resized the images so it's less than 100k for each pic. J |

Yummy! Me want :)
How much was it from Australia? |
looks good
|
Anyone wanna take bets on how many "hey, check out the pics of my new GT3540 kit" threads we will have per week for the next, oh...six months?
I think three per week, average :D |
I bought my turbo with the goodies shown for about $1800USD shipped.
The turbo is about $1300USD, but I added polishing, hoses, fittings, flange, flex pipe, and a heatshield. J |
Yeah, it looks like a lot of GT35/40 is hitting the US shores.
I just wanted to post the pics of the turbo from different angles since I haven't found anybody who has posted different views of the turbo (CHRA, compressor, turbine). For grins, I posted the comparison of the GT35/40 and the 62-1 I used. I hope the GT35/40 reliability is better than the 62-1 (ceramic BB). I plan to fabricate the downpipe in the next couple of days. J |
Ajatx, The turbine flange of the GT35/40 turbo has a T3 bolt pattern? What was wrong with your old turbo?
|
The old turbo is a 62-1 which is a T04 footprint.
J |
nice turbo. :D
|
really nice unit. i would like to know how you like it. :D
|
how do you like yours so far?
|
Is the 62-1 a smaller or bigger turbo? From what i can tell its smaller.. I was just wondering why you would be going with a smaller turbo?
|
62-1 is physically a bigger turbo than the GT35/40.
THe efficiency is pretty small compared to TS04 compressor map. Reasons for the GT35/40 over the 62-1: 1) 62-1 is probably on it's last spin. 2) GT35/40 is a pretty reliable turbo (Garrett makes nice stuff too) according to a couple of vendors. 3) I want something different. J |

Out of curiosity, which HKS manifold are you using and does HKS make the T4/T3 adapter as well? TIA.
Michel |
damn,did you use enough pipes?
|
rx7tt95,
I welded the adapter on the HKS manifold. There isn't enough space to use the adapter studs and nuts behind the T4 flange on the manifold. I'll probably get a new manifold as this current set-up is temporary. Kong, Yeah, I'd like to reduce the pipe count. I'm building off the previous owner's set-up. It'll soon transform to my set-up (just letting the wallet heal right now). J |
i hope thats not the oil feed line in silicone hose??????!!!!!!!! how long is that going to last
|
Draged this thread up from the dead!
Let's ask for updates on the turbo then. |
And dyno results
Tim |
3540 owners don't dyno ;)

over 450 SAE, that is
I guess I just don't know when to quit... Nice job, Carl |
What's the range where the 3540 is in it best range? 17? 15? 20?
