Picking out my turbo
Hey everyone. I am trying peice together a single kit and have been working on picking out my single turbo. I have been really interesed in the master power turbos due to the good quality for the price(not the ssautochrome ones so dont start with the negativity), especially the mpt61, mpt62, and mpt70.
It will be going on a fd with stock ports (as far as i know). I would like to see around 400hp at 15lbs and still be able to turn the boost up for some on track days. Im not really planning on taking it over 20psi.
I was wondering if anybody has one of these turbos and what there opinions are of them?? Is this a resonable hp goal with any of these turbos What a/r's would you reccomend on the compressor and hotside??

I have the MP T70, on my S4 13BT half bridged. Just to give you an idea on the power level. i had a small IC, and various boost leaks and old plugs, while doing 480rwhp at @21psi. should be more at 500rwhp. The turbo is of good quality, a standard Garrett rebuild works(correct me if im wrong) for it. and after about 2kmi it is still like new. oh yeah it was making 390rwhp @ 13ish psi.

How big is the MP gt37 as compaired to the MP t-61?? I have heard and read alot of good things about the MP t-61 but never found out exactly what housings they were using. What compressor housing sizes would you reccomend for these turbos and what are the benifits/drawbacks between the two??
I was tempted at first to go with the MP T70 but i figured that would be to big for my application. I am trying to find the best all around turbo for my buck. I came across a good group buy on the MP series on another bulliten board.
I allready have the ssacrap manafold. Pretty much all i have left is turbo, wastegate, and fuel system so i can get going on my project. If it all pans out right i should have the turbo, wastegate, and manafold for around $1000.00. Im just not that experienced with turbo sizes.
thanks for the info guys keep it comin

Yeah your right. I thought i read somwhere that MP made a gt37 wheel or somthing comperable to the garrett. The GB has the garrett gt37 included so i still would like to know if the gt37 is worth the extra $150.00 over the MP t-61.

couldn't tell you. all i know is what my turbo guy told me--
62-1 is no longer in production from garrett. this is the replacement wheel. i haven't seen a compressor map, but i believe it's supposed to blow just a bit more than the 62. from what i'm told, it's the biggest flowing wheel you can get on a small shaft.
that's all what i've been told and i can't directly verify it, so it might not be totally accurate. i do have one on a customer's car, so i'll shortly be able to get a good idea of how much power it'll make. my guess is it'll probably be just like the 62-1 or gt35r up to about 15psi or so. i can't say what it'll do after that since i haven't tested it yet or even seen a compressor map, but i BELIEVE it's supposed to be a little more efficient at higher boost levels than the 62.
