pic of my custom wastegate recirculation

that's a Tial 44 running into a custom 3" downpipe. I bought a 1.75" J pipe and we cut the bends up and then merged it into the main exhaust stream as smoothly as we could.

When I bought this FD the single was already on it. It was recirc'd and it seemed like it was acting weird. So I had my friend cut it out and plump it straight out behind the tire. I found out after the fact that they had a 55mm gate, plumbed with a 2 inch pipe, going into a nickel sized hole back into the exhaust... WTF?!

I boosted it today actually. You can't hear it all--the exact opposite of my old HKS 40mm opened to atmosphere without so much as a dump pipe. Been there, done that.

It's just how I wanted it.

On most cars you can still hear the w/g open with it re-plumbed. Exhaust gets slightly loud and you can hear that open vent tone...

How about it's efficiantcy?

Funny how people bitch about the noise an open wastegate makes when they own a rotary..... Have you ever heard your exhaust note at WOT? Because I'm sure it by its self is not to quiet.

re-read post #9. I have done the open wastegate thing and I got tired of it attracting attention. My current setup has a Racing Beat catback and there is a HUGE difference in how loud the car is when a wastegate dumps to atmosphere.

I used to have an n/a 2nd gen with dual N1's, no cat, and turbo rotor housings which don't have the silencers in the exhaust sleeves that the n/a's normally have. I know how loud these cars can be. Daily drive really loud rotaries on and off for 5 years and you get sick of it. And you'll note that I didn't just merge the dump pipe from the side at a 90 degree angle, I was thinking about efficiency the whole time. Think about how many modified cars run traditional internal wastegate setups. With some exceptions (ATP internal wastegate, open wastegate dumps, etc) an internal wastegate is about as performance-inefficient as you can get when it comes to routing wastegate discharge into the main exhaust stream.

I'm about to do the same thing. Once the gate pops open the whole car sounds like a chainsaw. I'm getting old, and would like things to be a little more quiet.

No matter how you slice it an open wastegate is loud as ****, as soon as it cracks, everytime.

Some guys like it, I used to. I ran mufflers, all kidns of different setups but I can say with 100% confidence my car is much more tame noise wise with it recirculated - there's no debate there. Sure the car's still loud @ 20psi/7500RPM, but everything will be when it makes power. Just because a person doesn't want to hear that piercing scream doesn't mean they're bitching about noise - just that its much more streetable noise.

**** my Greddy gate used to open between shifts while driving in town. Cool for a year, then lame.

My 4" isn't loud at WOT, and flows a ****-ton. I have both 44's recirculated and am perfectly content with its efficiantcy, LOL... (1.3:1 intake to exhaust pressure ratio at 9psi)

The way that wastegate is routed is identical to how mine is lol.

Probably going to crack being MIG welded.

Big negative on that. Looks to have decent penetration.

I mig welded my entire exhaust system because I was too lazy to TIG the whole works. Been on the car for approaching three seasons and its all perfectly intact.

it was professionally migged with a Millermatic 210. That being said, I don't exactly expect OEM longevity from aftermarket parts. To reduce stress on the plumbing, I have a flexpipe further back in the downpipe than what is shown here.

Every time J talks I feel like I'm watching that whiny **** on American Idol. And I hate American Idol.

I think it's a job well done for its intended purpose.

If your MIG welding is cracking, you aren't doing it right or don't have a good enough welder. MIG can be as strong as TIG as long as it is done correctly, and that includes tube chassis as well as exhaust.
