I used to drive by city bus stops and stomp on the throttle. On a number of occasions, I've heard people scream out of fear, thinking they were going to die. It put a smile on my face.

I like this thread. I don't really like loud exhausts, but it's different with an open gate since it's only when you're stomping on it.

My friend rode in it and said the whole experience is just plain scary, not only because the car accelerates so insanely but it's like having someone screaming at you the whole time. It definitely catches people in other cars off guard since it's pretty mellow just rolling down the highway, then you take off and this horrendous noise is surrounding them. Very intimidating during a race.

You can also search "memphisraines82" on youtube to find my channel. I have prob. 15 track video's up since May. T78 with tial wastegate going to the atmosphere.
Thats a cool video. Makes me wanna track my car. Do people have wrecks out there much? That road looks kinda narrow and you come up on some people at quite a bit of speed. I'm surprised some of them didn't just drive off the road to get away.

can't be the intimidation factor of an open gate on a rotary. it's louder than open gates I hear on piston motors.

I want to get an SPL meter to test this theory. I ran a boosted LQ4 in a notch with an open gate and it hurt my ears just as much as when i ran my friends FD with an open gate.

gusfd that looks like an amazing setup, how much hp you looking for with that? and at what boost? Here is a question, how hard is it to take that part off to get it polished?

I did that by accident once. I was testing my car and there were these teenager's (1 girl 2 guys)walking down the street. Without thinking I WOT and the girl jumped about a foot and started to stomp her feet on the ground while screaming... The guys were cracking up and so was I lol

Speaking of running up on people too fast...

You can actually go three wide on most spots of the track. I mostly do HPDE which is very safe and controlled for the most part. Even with the video above, the classroom instruction that is beat into your head prepares you very well for what to do in a bad situation. I was completely calm the whole time. I was looking ahead and keeping him in my perphephial vision. I basically had two options, pass him and take an early apex(which I don't know how he would of reacted and could of potentially put me in another bad situation) or go off to the left where I knew I had plenty of runoff I also am suppose to receive a point by in HPDE before you can pass someone.

I highly encourage anyone who has an FD to do a track day... that's what these cars were made to do... be driven... and not just in a straight line... you paid for the suspension and brakes on your car, you might as well use them I have spent prob. 30 days on the track since May and couldn't be happier with my FD... and I've been an owner for 10 years. Wish I hadn't of waited so long End shameless plug... back to openwastegates

Damn, close one. I would really like to get out on some roadcourses with my FD. I just need a bit of a different setup first.

isnt that the truth? i hate when you mostly see 7s down a straight track...:.... i am saving up for a single turbo now, should be a couple months.

but man nice reaction with the Porsche, i would love to see peoples reaction with a single owg, i have lots of people always riding there bike around where i work looks like there training for a marathon. would like to see them just swerve into the grass and scare others

Ah choices choices...besides the torque/hp shift to the midrange any other advantages to plumbing the wastegate back into the downpipe? And less noise of course...
