Opinions on GReddy TD06

Hey guys, I'll probably be joining the ranks of the single turbo community in the next year or so. I'm looking for about 375-400rwhp, but still want a nice, solid powerband. I heard good things about the TD06, but only from salepeople so far. Any help?

there are actually 2 versions of this turbo... The one in the US is the TD06-20G, it makes power but not as much as other turbos and in Japan there is the TD06-25G which is very popular and makes a lot of power. I also heard that the TD06 kits do not come with a wastegate, don't know if tha'ts true or not. I don't know any forum members who have either kit

Yeah, it's a turbo built by Mitsubishi to meet GReddy specifications. Do you guys have any other suggestions?

you can upgrade the 20g to a 25g pretty easy, I know a guy in denver that has a tdo6 on his fd and likes it!

It's a small turbo for a 7! you might have to run 20+ psi to make 375 RWHP, but it should spool really fast.

how and where do you upgrade? I know that the two turbos are almost exactly alike, except that the intake side of the 25G is bigger and has more fins.

is the exhaust manifold the same for the two kits? I'm talking about the greddy turbo kit. RE ameyiya seems to really like this kit, as I always see them using this and the TD07-25G in their race cars

Well, TD06 is the compressor housing size, and the 20-25g refers to the compressor wheel. The exhuast housing are probably the same.

This is a standard mitso turbo, same thing used by DSM's and 3SI guys....

This is my TD07-25G, just thought I'd post a pic to compare. It has a 4" inlet and a 2.5 outlet on the compressor housing and a 17cm devided exhaust housing.

Everyone that I've talked to said to stay away from the TD06 just because they are kinda small for a 13b.

I'll second that. When I mentioned I might be looking for a single turbo for my FD, the first thing I heard was, 'Whatever you do don't buy a TD06, you'll regret it'. But this is from a tuner that only likes giant turbos and BIG power.

can you use the same TD06 manifold if you wanted to change the 20G to a 25G?

I know this is an old old old thread but I wanted to ask a question and correct something that Dyre said.

The TD05/TD06TD07 designates the turbine specs while the 18G/20G/25G designates the compressor specs. And as already stated the Greddy kits use the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) turbo units but Greddy has specially sized turbines.

Now my question was about the size of the Greddy kits compressor size. I've looked at the Greddy site and RX7store but they only specified the turbine size (TD06). Does anybody know if it is a 20G or a 25G compressor?

Also does anyone know of any other kits using the TD06-25G (not 20G) turbo? I'm trying to figure out why this size is popular amongst some of the people on Japan. I'm guessing that it is for guy who dont want high HP numbers. And it's also the closest thing they have to the XS T04E and S trim turbos that is locally available to them.

EDIT: and also where can I get a TD07 turbine from (in the USA).

DOUBLE EDIT: nm, someone said that BNR can get the TD07's

TIA

Hello again guys,

I ws just wondering is the Greddy T67 just another designation for the TD07-25G? I was going through the Ciriani site and that was what I read.

TIA

Just because it can hit 28psi by 3200rpm that doesn't mean it's capable of high HP. To me that means it's a little on the restrictive side.

We will see shortly he is in the process of pinning and sub 300 his motor, We will be at the dyno soon and back with some results. He worked at Pettit for years and was the mechanic behind Pettits drag car when it ran a 9.8 so i think he know what hes doing.
