Oil leak after long idle

What are the chances that the gaskets inside a 6 month old turbo (with only about 8 hours on it) have dry rotted from sitting on a shelf for the last 5 months? The turbo was perfect before I removed it from my other
car, and now I'm finding oil in the compressor side of the turbo as well as in the intercooler piping. I think I know how a seal in the turbo works, so is it POSSIBLE that my having the car idling for a couple of hours (over the last few days trying to get it to run) could allow that kind of oil to seep through? I'm hoping that's the problem, as it is a new turbo.

My oil return line is as large as the stock one, and the only uphill section of it is probably about 2 or 3 degrees above level. That shouldn't cause backflow, should it?

I'm a little concerned, as I bought this turbo brand new from InitialD FC (Late Shift Engineering) here on the forum last August. I'd hate to think that it's gone bad with practically no time on it, especially when the highest it was boosted was about 12 psi.
