obx stainless manifold

does anyone have or know anyone that has experience with these manifolds? they look pretty neat....i've got one. is the mounting flange out enough to put a t-66 on with clearance for the lower intake manifold? i have all the pieces and am debating b/t a 60-1 or little bigger. just don't want to buy one that won't fit as it will be a while before i can actually test fit things.

Bacon bought one of these. he could not fit a t04 on w/o hitting the manifold. from what he was telling me, it was not going to be a huge problem. maybe send him a PM and talk to him. he is the only person i know who has one.

yeah, it was one of the first times i bought off ebay on an auction. i paid a lot more for it than i would have liked to. others got their's cheaper.....but on the other hand, it's cheaper than the HKS stainless manifold. now trying to get it to work.

if that thing is that good then i might get one and sell my xs manifold!!!! let us know if that thing cracks badly!!! thats one good thing about the cast manifolds i guess.

way to blow my cover kieth, lol jk
the manifold is beautiful...real nice welds and great design
prob is its not designed for a huge turbo, i have a t04s for the xs kit.. 1.0 divided tanigal housing and it hits the lim and missed the turbo flage holes by abt 1/8 to 1/4 in. my plan instead of hacking the lim or the housing up is to take a extra racing beat header flange and get it welded on the obx flange, kinda like a spacer but fully welded around the outside so ill never have to worry abt a ex leak from the flange....im pretty sure (havent measured yet but i figure if i get the rb flange machined to half its thickness it should fit no prob

theres plenty of room on the other side to the frame rail...if i ever remember to bring my camera home from school ill snap a pic or 2

thanks, i'd like to see the pics. i guess ordering another flange from RB would be a good idea. i haven't thought of that. the way i perceived black99's info was ordering another t04 flange and moving it over a bit then welding it to the existing turbo flange. that would both move it out a little as well as up some. then i would assume you ( at least i) would have ported the original and the new mounting flange to direct flow to the turbo....kinda angled or radiused them to not impede flow so much. anyways, as i said, i'd really like to see your pics so i can get some sort of idea to tackle this monster and get this thing back on the road.

OBX manifold are very nice. I just order on and installed it on my 3rd-RX. I have pics that I will post.

This manifold has a very nice design/welds in it look beautyful and no problems installing it. I have a TS04 single turbo with a Tang/div Hot side which is sitting on it now I just installed. And it sits good, I am hearing the degisn is simular to the HKS SS Manifold.

True!! It does sit close and welding a flange on will do the trick for bigger Hot sides on turbos.

LOL I really mean't what Bacon was talking about with the extra exhaust flange(seems to me the easiest way to go about it), not another t04 flange. I know I was kinda confusing in that PM, sorry. Your idea sounds good though I never thought of that, I guess you could try another t04 flange but I'd set everything up first to see if it'll work that way for you.

Manny, what wastegate are you going to be using?

what are the specs on your turbo, manny? new to the turbo scene..what is a ts04? what a/r and compressor housings to you have?

Manny, what wastegate are you going to be using?
The OBX Manifold only accepts HKS type wastegates (rectangle flange) which I learned the hard becuase I bought a Greddy 50mm Wastegate before purshacing the manifold. I did not want to cut the manifold to weld on the Greddy flange. So I sold it and bought a HKS 40mm standard wastegate.

I bought the Garrett TSO4 from a Supra guy and he had a small hot side of .70 and I know the Rx-7's needs .84 and above. My Compressor side is .60.
Just like the HKS SS Manifolds the OBX manifold sits the turbo's hotside pretty close the lower intake manifold not allowing larger upgrades of large turbo housing (Not a Proven fact but it looks that way.) So I am thinking when I do put a bigger turbo Hot side housing on I will also install another flange inbetween the engine and manifold Flange and weld it at the seams.
That should give it space.

You will have to call them and see if OBX makes the manifolds for the 2nd-gen. Because I know the 2nd-gen manifolds extend out alittle further that the 3rd-gen due to the lower intake manifold. But I am not sure if 3rd-gen manifolds can fit 2nd-gens. I learned the hard way that 2nd-gen aftermarket single turbo manifolds do not fit 3rd-gen. It fits on to the engine fine but try to fit on the turbo . The turbo will bump into the 3rd-gens frame rail.

main problem with the HKS cast manifold is that when you use it with a turbo that has a TS04 type compressor housing, you will have to dent the frame rail to get it to fit. I have a 1.15 exhaust a/r and it fits fine

I would like to see a TS04 turbo (t61, t66, etc) on this manifold and see how it fits in there.

only other trouble you may have is with that standard wastegate from HKS. I had one and it creeped above 7k RPM, but i guess it depends on your porting and turbo. I have the larger racing wastegate now and it controls things much better, but before i learned my lesson i had a boost spike to 20+ psi and cracked an apex seal which i havent gotten around to fixing yet since the car is just sitting for the winter out of state. the spike was due to both the wastegate and a fried pressure line going to the wastegate chamber. heat wrap ANYTHING that even MIGHT get too hot!!!

let's see those pics with a turbo on the manifold!

ive heard you can fit a t66 onto an xs cast manifold. anybody know if that is true. id like to see real proof of this. . . like i said. . . ive only HEARD that.

well, peter told me to get a T60-1 w/ 1.15 a/r and .70 compressor housings so i will go with his word, after all, he is the moderator and knows and forgotten more than most of us. there is a garrett distributor that said he could get me that configuration on a brand new turbo for $475.
hot damn!! this thing might be running this summer!
