We completed the first manifold using only pie-cuts, and they'll only get better from here on out. Some may like it, some may hate it... we love it.

Thanks! It should do the trick.

Its a turner, various fixtures are used with it to hold the work-piece in the best possible position as it spins.

Wire brush before tacking, then once together the whole runner or piece is polished using a 60" SOS belt to get everything consistent. We may start to electro-polish these in the future.

IMO, the pie-cut piping just looks so damn cool compared to standard setups.
awesome work!

quick question... does the pie-cut setup end up being more or less expensive than buying a bunch of mandrel bends and welding them up, once you factor in material cost and labor time?

The actual material used is a a bit less expensive... a few feet of piping for the pie-cuts vs. a foot of pipe and 5-7 elbows (We use standard butt-weld elbows...45's and 90's, no mandrel bends for these) for the traditional manifold... but the time required to weld is about 4 times that of a traditional manifold.

The two designs being equal? No. However, you're no longer limited to the radiuses of short or long elbows for your runners, allowing you more freedom in the design. Equal length is much easier to achieve when having to work within a confined space. So, in that regard it is a benefit as fas as laying out a manifold, but as for performance given the two styles in the same design, I would say no.

I thought maybe the beads that penetrate completely through and built a hump on the inside of the manifold would have some effect...No?

That is so ******* cool. You're backpurging I assume? Can you give me some details on how that's set up?

Thanks! Each section is laser cut cut to certain degree, and the degree will vary with the radius of the bend, or how gradual the transition might be. Each section also has a laser etch at the thinnest point, and also 180 at the widest point. This allows you to line them up just so. If you want to gradually rotate the segments to fit down a certain path (take this downpipe for example) you can clock the etch marks to do just that. It actually makes things much easier than having to guess and hack at pre-bent 90's or other elbows more commonly used. And it just looks wild!
This downpipe was fused using no filler rod, and purged. 4", V-bands each end.
