Need Turbo Advice (noob)

Hey, im new to boost, and i think i bought too large of a turbo. Right now i am running a T4 60-1 turbo (1.15 hotside, .60 coldside). Im runnin 5psi daily and the problem i have is my boost doesnt come on till about 3800-4000RPM and i usually dont hit full boost until about 4200-4500 RPM. I am basically running stock exhaust except for a 2.5" downpipe into a gutted 2.5" cat and then into the stock y pipe to the stock mufflers. So my question is, should i go with a smaller turbo or should i try gettin a custom 2.5" maybe 3" turbo back exhaust? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definately go full 3 inch. That turbo (as long as it is in good shape) is great. You need to let it breath a little bit though. You also need to make sure your fuel system is up to par. And for got sakes turn up the boost. haha. Good luck.

3" exhaust would help, but thats still a pretty big hot side....you could keep the same turbo and swap a .84 or .96 A/R hotside which should help a bit on the spool up.

Hey, thanks for the replies. How hard is it to swap the hot side on a turbo? Would i also need to change the cartridge?

Is there any good exhaust systems that i could buy instead of having one made?

THanks

Racing Beat, or Apexi, or JIC for the exhaust, a .81 hotside from the correct manufacturer will finish it assuming you have a cast manifold.

Yeah, i do have a cast manifold. Last night i ordered corksports 3" cat back so im gonna see how that works, and if it still has bad turbo lag ill try changing my hot side on my turbo.

Thanks for the advice

what injectors you running?

id say its time to start looking to a standalone if you want o see what that turbo will do.
unless you know of some other way to tune large injectors and change your timing map.

maybe look into the rtek 2.0 ecu chip... www.pocketlogger.com

watchout... dont blow up. the best mod i have installed was a wideband.

Right now i am runnin the stock N/A injectors (460cc). I am eventually going to upgrad. What kind of wideband are you using? A wideband and a front mount are going to be my next investments.

wow... ok fist you need to get a set of bigger injectors and some way to controll them. safc is a good choice.

my buddy thats been through all the problems that come with boosting a n/a finally decided to run a tii ecu, pressure sensor, fcd and afm. he upped the primarys to stock (tii) 550s and 720s for secondarys.

the stock 460s dont have the fuel... add that with the n/a mapped ecu and pile on that T4 you have and your asking for problems.

even on the stock turbo he was getting 15:1 A/F ratios under boost until he changed everything over. he didnt know it was that bad till the day he installed his wideband. www.plxdevices.com the m-300 is the one we run. but the sponser on this site has some great deals on them too. https://www.rx7club.com/a-148/
