Need help asap gt4094

Ok. I am trying to sell my turbo from my build here:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...ndo-fl-867607/

Years ago I rubbed off the raised lettering where it says GARRETT A/R .70 while I was polishing it. Never thought I'd be selling it, let alone doing an LS swap. So heres my dilemma, how do I prove its a real one? My old Apexi turbo had a serial plate on it but this one doesnt. I dont remember if it had one before I polished it either...

Someone has sent me a paypal for this thing but I want to be able to prove its real before I send it. Everything else on my car was top quality but that's not enough to prove this was real. Its persuasive but I dont feel right about it.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati.../#post11487849

I thought I got lucky when I found an engraved ".70" inside the outlet for the compressor but nothing about garrett in there.

Will the internal parts shed any light on this? Blade configuration or something?

Still any advice is welcome.

My advise would be to ship that turbo to whoever sent you money for it, asap. If they have paid you for a product, knowing that the "Garrett" stamp is rubbed off than they are probably more concerned with receiving what they paid for than with you getting an email back. At least that's what I would think if I had sent the money.

Unfortunately I can't help with the identification

+1, If you informed the buyer of this then it would be the buyers risk/responsibility to ensure its the real deal.
Unless you are falsely advertising it to be a garret and made this thread to dupe them(sorry, just playing devils advocate!)

Ive had this turbo since 06 when I bought the car, and the previous owner had it at least a year before that... When did these fake ones even show up on the market?

The status of the turbo came up after I had posted it, with no mention of the markings removed, because I didn't even think of it.

I may just have a huge turbo that's only good for a lamp or something.

The price was dropped to $275 because its just sitting in my garage, along with a PPF I cant seem to unload.

I run a genuine Garrett GT4094R . The apperance of the compressor pictured is distinctly different to mine. For one it should have a ported compressor cover (anti surge) also, the general shape is different. My GT4094R has a serial plate.

This is an older model before they started porting the compressor housing. Its from >2005...

The GT4094 R was the newer model with the ball bearings. Ive had this thing on my car for a long time. Its also journal bearing and only cooled/lubed by oil. There is no water line like newer ones.

The fact that this one has lasted 7+ yrs on my car might mean something LOL

theres a square bump on every garrett turbo with a small hole in it... there on every big (gt35-gt55) turbos... plus on the right of where the garrett name is (going counterclockwise on the turbo) is the serial # that could be given to garrett regarding when it was made

I polished it while I was getting the engine rebuilt the first time so I might have rubbed it off if it was on the compressor housing... Where is this square?

I need to go get it out of my car, despite the tropical storm sitting on top of fl right now.

This is before I polished it but the fat side is below the sightline... :/

Then I polished everything by hand:

Im trying so hard to find pics from when I bought it.

WTF dude. The garrett turbos have so much written on it. Have no idea how you could of rubbed off the big dent near the inlet.. & the GT40 has and additional circle inside the big circle where you put the air filter on.

My work server blocks that pic...

I used a dremel to smooth out the casting. My ribs were broke, I was out of work and pretty bored. I never thought I would abandon that setup, but here I am stuck with this thing.

The inlet is trumpet shaped and smooth on the outside with no real step down if that's what you are getting at. There is a ~2" collar for fixing a filter...

Is this what you are getting at?

on the garrett turbos (gt35-gt55) theres 2 circles.. one is the size of the wheel & the other is the size of the outlet.. IN OTHER WORDS.. THER SHOULD BE ANOTHER CIRCLE INSIDE THE OUTLET COMPRESSOR CIRCLE WHICH IS THE SIZE OF THE TURBO WHEEL
this is an example

I have never heard of an older GT 4094. However, I could be just uninformed.

My friend at Real Street says its probably ten yrs old and that he hasnt seen one of them like this (besides my car) in a long time. He said since he was 19yrs old.

It probably outdates most of the people on this forum.

He told me since I rubbed off the serial number i'm screwed. I guess Ill keep it as a souvenir.

When I did it 6-7 yrs ago I never thought I would be selling it, nor getting out of rotaries altogether...

I know in one of my old car magazines there is an ad by Garrett that shows this turbo and compares it to others in their product line. Little project for me when I get home tonight. Ill scan it if I find it.

Its kind of aggravating that this is the type of response I get on this forum. Ive been here for a long time and am on my 2nd FD.

The ******* thing is legit.

I talked directly to the buyer and he knows what this is, he's 30 and has seen these before countless times.

Sorry for being shitty.

Never got dyno numbers because these clowns in Orlando talk a good game but know dick about tuning, hence the LS swap. I had the second FD for ~6 yrs and never hit full throttle.

If you all knew the hassle this car has caused you'd understand my frustration.
