Max boost on 98 octane?
Max boost on 98 octane?
Got an fd in Japan I'm planning to bridgeport and go single turbo.
From what I hear the borg 9180 is a good size for bridgeports, but my question is whether there's any point, since I'm only going to run 98 pump fuel without water/meth injection.
If the fuel can't handle that much boost without detonation I may aswell go with the smaller 8374 for better response.

A lot of tuners will pull up around 1 bar boost fuel only, but with good supporting systems guys in Australia have run up to 25psi. There was a guy running ~21psi on 91RON in a track car somewhere.
There us no reason you can't run 2 bar boost with appropriate AI.
Bigger turbos will allow ported engines to run closer to their natural power curve even at lower boost.

it kind of depends on the power output, and not the boost exactly. back in the day the Japanese tuners were running over a bar on pump, some up to 20psi, and i think the record were the KSP cars, they got up to 28psi at 728ps. they were also running big laggy turbos, its easier to avoid detonation at higher rpm than lower.
this is a really rough explanation, but one of the factors in detonation is combustion chamber pressure. (heat is another), the 13B-REW makes 217ft lbs of tq, which is some chamber pressure (we don't know), and the race engines were something like 160lbs ft of torque, so less chamber pressure, but the race engine goes on to make more power 300hp@9000rpm vs 280hp@6500.
