ND Looking to get 350HP

Hey everyone, I know it may not seem like much HP for a lot of you but it is great for what I am going to be using it for. I am starting my single swap here for autox and got me a good deal. I have a Turbonetics GTK350 duel ballbearing and billet wheel with the BOV and wastegate. I knowt the turbo can do at least 350 to 400 but what esle would I need to do if I need to do anything? Everything is bone stock in the engine bay. Will I need new injectors, fuel pump, clutch, or will it all be ok to handle it the way the car sits?

Thanks,

Darin

Definitely need to upgrade you fuel system, and an ECU so you can tune it.

Your turbos are setup non sequential . You will definitely need to improve your fuel system ie. secondary injectors, probably a good idea to switch to a newer, modern fuel pump and add a fuel pressure regulator to keep things in check. It will also be a good time to swap to a new intercooler if your running the stock one, a smic such as a PFS or M2 brand intercooler will be fine. Depending on how "intense" your autox events are and the amount of abuse the car will receive, upgrading your radiator to a koyo or fluidyne and running double oil coolers will definitely be appreciated by your car as well. Assuming your running a stock exhaust, its always a good idea to remove the precat and run a downpipe to free up the flow of exhaust and remove excess heat while gaining a bit of power in the process. It will be a good idea to switch your clutch out as well if your going to be banging gears a bit harder than a casual driver would. A stage 2 of the more popular brands would be a good choice.

HOWEVER, if your running non-sequential... well even if you were running sequential, you should be able to make 350hp with some light mods and a proper tune.

Some people will either agree or disagree with me here, and it also depends on the mileage and condition of your cars internals as well but for the most part

It's always better to over-prepare a bit then be unprepared.

OK, here is what I all have now but not installed yet. I have a Koyo Radiator, XSpeed intercooler (i believe is the name), Rotory Works Elbow, Custom exhaust is being made and will have a full 3" all the way back, and the internals are all stock. By the way, the car has just turned 40,000 miles before she hit storage this year. The car had sequential turbos on it but when I bought the PFC they had tuned it for what I all was going to do to it so the set it up for 10PSI as of now just so I could start it up to check everything untill I can go get it tuned.

You will need a clutch, secondary injectors and fuel pump for anything over the 265rwtq range( probably about 325rwhp on that turbo). It will take 24+ psi to make 400rwhp on that size turbo FYI.

Just wondering, why go single if you are only looking for 350?

Thank you Turblown for the easy finds and I am looking at funds right now to get those. You have no idea how much I easier that make if for me now.
ZE Power MX6, I will do my best here to explain. As we worked on getting the Koyo rad in this fall we looked at fixing a small issue with the UIM and as we took it off and sat it aside there my buddy had a magnet and it caught a nut and then it dropped off into the LIM. We had to take off the Exhaust which was cut open at the cat and rewelded so that was going to be new and the stock twins had a fin that had a small end chipped off and bent. Plus before that it dyno at 223 hp and had a bad dip when the first turbo switched to the second one. If it was not cuz of that bad fin I would still have twins.

You could always find a donor set of turbos in moderate condition and just swap chra's or the entire twin setup instead of taking it apart. Have you looked into bnrs? They seem more suitable for your power level, good for autox, and you already have a presumably good core for them. You will gain a bit more top end while still having nice spool.. although a single will help to dissipate the heat in your engine bay. Follow turblown's advice, he will set your car straight

Game changer just happened and now looking for some different help. Still looking at the injectors, cluch, and fuel pump. We did some digging on the Turbonetics GTK350 and found out that I do need around 20PSI to hit the numbers i need but important that I will no long be getting power over 6800rpms and be losing it past that from the turbo dropping off after that. So I am looking for a larger one I believe and I have no clue what to look for. brand size anything now. I am in my busiest month at work and have a low amount of time to look and I have a buddy looking for me as well. If I go bigger should i just go for more HP?

You don't need primary injectors for 350hp. 2000 secondary is plenty enough for 350hp along with a fuel pump upgrade.

I will be running 91 octane. what if I jump to 350 to 400 with this setup?? will stock primary and those nice secondaries be ok? All this has got me worried and I have been learning a ton more about the car over the year I have had it but still confuses me. GRR!! I will be dropping money on it so I can get it running for the spring.

Yes, a 550/2000 setup will support 400whp. I do suggest having the OEM 550's cleaned and flow balanced. RC Engineering does this, and for 20 year old injectors, its a must.

Thanks XLR8 for the heads up on making the power and yes I agree with being cleaned and have a shop that can do that and is good at it with great results. Used them on a Nissan Sentra B13 Ser with a SR20DET swap we did but those dam injectors caused a fuss.

because for us with the stockers , you can make 350 by upping the boost alot on the stock twins , but They wont last for very long making that power. turbos just aren't ment to run more then 10 psi after 14 psi the air is super heated , and unless you have meth / GOOD intercooler you will be hurting your engine and not even making much more power with those superheated intake air temps .

( I came creeping in here because I'm interesting in the same exact thing as the OP ) hah

Typical end users will see 1 bar by 3400rpms. Well built cars will see 1 bar by 3000rpms.

damn thats pretty good. What defines a well built car that would yield that threshold?
