Knightsport turbo upgrade? Who has one? Need help and opinions.

A buddy of mine is selling me a knightsport turbo upgrade for $300. He says it's a T04s hybrid turbo. I'm not too fluent on turbo talk, but he said the exhaust housing is from the stock turbo, but the compressor and wheel are from the T04s. He said it was the "Knightsport" upgrade. Supposedly knightsport will either sell you the parts to perform the upgrade yourself or you can send them your stock turbo and they will do it for you. I'm looking at getting between 350-400 hp. I'll be using an FMIC, upgraded injectors, and fuel pump, and an SAFC. My question is, who has this setup? Are you happy with this turbo? Is this a good deal? BTW, it is supposed to have been newly rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. I need answers today because he said that deal is only gonna last today as he really needs the money! thx guys.

Knightsports is pretty rare in the US. I asked about the upgrade for my FD in the Japanese section so you may try there as well. Sounds like you have a FC, since you mentioned single turbo.

Are you talking 350-400 to the wheels or flywheel? I don't think the stock hotside can get past 300rwhp, if that in most cases.

Hi Buddy,

I am currently using one in my FC3C. Used to have one in my SA22C also but have since upgraded to a T04E. This Knightsports turbo is rather common over here, and it does have a stock exhaust housing, but the compressor side is slightly larger than stock. When I just had this turbo in, there was no significant increase in power, but after having the downpipe's diameter increase to 3", you can feel it, but don;t expect much compared to the TO4e that I'm using.

Best Regards,
Francis

Well for $300 I guess I can't really argue huh? I mean, I would be happy if in the end it gave me 350 to the wheels, but I wouldn't be too dissappointed if I could only manage 300 at best. Anymore people who use this setup would be appreciated, as I am buying the thing tomorrow. $300 is a good deal right? It's rebuilt 10k miles ago.

Hi Buddy,

I think 300hp@wheels is qiuite difficult unless the boost is rather high. I think with a series 4 engine with mildports, mircotech MT-8 and 15psi of boost should give you around 300hp@flywheel. Have fun with this turbo, and probably get an external wastegate fitted, it does make a difference.

Best Regards,
Francis

Knight Sports uses all Turbonetic turbos. It's not as exotic as you might think.
