Question hp - where's the controllable limit?

guys i got a question: what do you think, how much _reliable_ hp can you get out of a 13b?

yes i know there's always risk when driving a tuned engine.
but, where's the point where it starts to become a question of luck if the engine blows or not?

i don't know if this was already asked a few times, but i would like to hear a few oppinions.

thanks

It all depends on the entire package. How everything comes together and the tune/setup.

A poorly tuned or setup engine may put out good power for a short time or lousy power a short time.

The key is to build and tune the entire package for good reliable power addressing all the key systems that support that kind of power. Therefore, you get good power for a long time.

Hope this makes sense.

Dave, Everyday reliable pump gas tune with good economy as well it has been proven that you can run 500bhp no problem at all, providing all limits are within check.

At that level with street use (moderate) it is not uncommon for an engine to last 60 000miles or around 100 000km. I have done over 40 000km on my own example with above moderate use.

At the upper end it is feasable to make in excess of 1000bhp from a 13B but life is much shorter, I have a 13B Peripheral Port Turbo engine that in low tune (ie moderate boost, advance, mixture) makes over 800bhp.

With a bit of advice from others and reading stuff of here it is quite easy to build a 500+bhp 13B Turbo that will realy be reliable and go faster than a Ferrari F40 with no trouble at all (acceleration and top speed) and at about 1/20th of the cost.

500 hp ??

first of all i wanna thank you for the responses.
another question would be if u can reach so much hp with a good streetport.
or do i need a (half)bridgeport ??
these are simple questions but i must start somewhere

At HP levels in excess of 500 HP having the tranny and diff hold up would be my concern over the life of the engine.

if your driving style isn't dumping the clutch at 5000rpm to take off with some grippy tyres on the back, i dont think your diff or trans will be a problem

he said 500bhp .... not 500RWHP

so that translates to low/mid 400s at the rear wheels. This is also where traction becomes a big issue on the street.
