How do you set the BOV?

Well Me == New to turbo's.

I've got a S5 turbo and Apexi FC BOV Kit.

Currently the Vacuum while parked set the BOV off at 3k rpm so I tightened the spring down.

So far it hasn't gone off.

Does anyone have a procedure on how to get the BOV set?

Is it supposed to go off at a certain vac/ or maybe rpm if not under boost?

It's on a rebuilt engine so I'm not even taking it over 4k rpm until it's broken in but I'm worried of compressor surge on my new turbo as well.

Thx.

Do you have a vaccum line hooked up from the intake manifold to the nipple on the BOV?

^ you should not tee off that nipple that much, it will slow everythings responses down. Give them all there own nipple.

ideally, yes, but the volume of air we're dealing with is not really significant.

I guess the best way to do it is to loosen it all the way and then tighten it until it doesn't leak any boost.

Well I don't have an ACV so I only have one nipple available so I have to use it.

I know it will slow reaction down a bit but oh well.
Plenty of ppl do this.

Now should the BOV go off every time I let off the pedal or just while under high throttle left offs?

thx

The BOV goes off when you let off the gas and close the throttle which creates a vacume at the UIM. When the BOV sees less pressure at the imput(which comes from the throttle body) than where it is attached it opens up to vent boost pressure that is no longer need because you let your foot off the gas. It will even open, let say, if you are boosting 10lbs and slightly lift off the throttle to 5 lbs, you should hear it open.

So If I'm staying out of boost completely due to it being a rebuild....
I'll almost always be in vacuum.

So Should I just rev it up to like 4k and make sure it doesn't leak while throttle on? Then adjust it down until it goes off a little while letting off?
