Thumbs up Holset HX36 yah or nah?

i can get one off a friend for about 150 in good condition. it came off his cummings diesel. It looks small enough to work on a rotary...

i know the 2.5 dodge omni manage to reach the desired boost level with it at around 6000 rpms, so....i think that it could be dead on for the rotary engine.

I run the HX35 or the SR stage 2, I don't know how much of a difference there is....but the price seems right. CJ

What kind of response do you get from the HX35 and what kind of porting is done to your engine?

No porting, and 50k miles on the stock engine. (Crossing fingers.) It makes full boost by 4-4,500rpms. Depends on what gear of course. Next wensday, I'm going to be throwing some 110 in the tank, and taking it to Ralph at Groundzero to see what will max out first. Either the big bosch fuel pump, or my 850/1300cc injectors. Or maybe, I'll be putting an engine in it after the dyno session. CJ

I don't know specifics in regards to the HX35 or 36, but I am running the Holset H1E. It was one of the turbos mentioned in the whole SR KKK turbo threads. Anyway, the H1E is a big-*** turbo. In my opinion, too big for my needs. Hindsight being 20/20, I would not have purchased it. I think it is designed for big numbers and that is really not what I am chasing. I generally don't see full boost until around the 4500 rpm range. In my opinion, a little too slow of a response. Don't get me wrong, the car is still fun as hell to drive, but I want something a little more responsive.

As far as I know, Holsets don't come in A/R sizes, but mine had a 26 cm housing. It was freaking huge! I think it was comparable to something in excess of 1.15...anyway, I found a place in Utah that had a smaller housing (22 cm) and I think it equates to about 1.05. Still big, but it was 1/2 inch smaller than the 26 cm housing. Swap wasn't painful at all.

I am running stock ports and I make 364 to the wheels at 14 psi.

If you need any other info, just pm me.
