HKS wastegate spring questions
HKS wastegate spring questions
Recently, BDC was up here in Ohio and I took my car to him for some of his tuning magic. He did an AMAZING job, and there are only a few areas that still need work, one being WOT. When I was building the car, I ordered a 10lb spring for my HKS racing wastegate. When I installed it, I noted it was yellow in color. On the dyno, the car behaves like it has a 14lb spring installed. We saw boost in the 12-13 psi range, and both myself and Brian decided to not start WOT tuning at that level. I checked www.hksusa.com and noted that the 10lb spring for the racing gate and the 14lb spring for the standard gate are the same color and part number. This got my thinking that maybe I should order the 10lb spring for the standard gate (green in color) as it seems the springs are interchangable. I just don't understand how one spring is 10lbs in one gate and 14lbs in the other. I can only imagine it has something to do with valve size, but who knows what else. What are your opinions on this matter? Basically, unless i use race gas, B does not feel comfortable starting tuning WOT at more than 10psi on pump gas. Eventually, we will stop at 15psi, but I for one, want to WORK UP to that.
