hks wastegate Q

so my question is, if I take off the four bolts at the top of the wastegate, what I would call the head of the wastegate, and I take off the top will springs and bolts come flying out or no? I want to take off the top because I have a feeling that my wastegate isn't opening (i'm on break in tune so i'm not going over 4k so i dont really know...) I can't get the 4 bolts at the base of the wastegate so im thinking about doing this under the vehicle.

well, depending what spring is in there, i wouldnt really recommend doing it attached to the car.

i recently took mine apart like that (i had a 6 psi spring in it). when youre taking out the last bolt youll have to push the top down so it doesnt shoot everywhere..

this isnt as easy as you think, especially being under a car and all

once the top comes off, you can inspect the diaphram/spring/nut/etc

-----

now youre in for the hard part

I put mine back together with a 10psi spring (I start tuning with a lower spring to get boost transition and low boost happy).

While under the car, its _VERY_ hard to hold the top down so you can get the bolt in, have everything lined up, and thread the bolt enough to catch, and still hold it there and get a second bolt in.

id say take the extra couple minutes to just take the 4 bolts off the manifold and remove the whole thing. It will save you a lot of headache.

----

OR: hook up an air hose to the side inlet of the wastegate.... see if it opens...

you might just have a heavy spring in there, who knows...

if you have an adjustable pressure source, you can see around what levels it will open.
