Do you need a blow off valve with turbos that have antisurge housing?

I´m placing order for a HKS T51R KAI BB kit tonight. Hoping to make 600+ before the tranny goes ... What I have been reading the t51r would make that power with reasonable response. And to me it´s even a pretty good deal vs gt42r + custom manifold and wg DP etc... It´s f****n expensive having custom stuff built where i´m from so that´s why i´m going HKS...

HKS = bring the lube with your credit card.

Just get a GT40R kit and save yourself $1k.

True, but the T51R has a distinct whistle to it that you can tell apart from most other anti-surge housings. If you can find a close up of the housings anti-surge slits and others you will see a difference.

Charles, there is no use debating this with Rice Racing. He has an enormous hard-on for all things HK$. If you ask him about GT42R Vs T51R all you will hear from him is "blah blah blah god damn truck turbos blah blah blah I <3 HK$ blah blah blah don't buy truck turbos blah blah blah."

Riiiiiiight. Ask Ralph(xcessive) how he likes his four year old daily driven 42R kit making 700whp. Still under warranty by the way not that he's needed it. What warranty does HKS have? Oh yeah none. They wont even warranty their TO4Z without a fight when the damn thing loses its bullet nut. Oh and have fun with the mild steel DP's as well. For the price it should be stainless. I'll have a 42R kit shortly running the V-banded stainless TiAL's much better choice in my book. Less weight, better materials, and better warranty.

how laggy is the T51R when making around 30 psi? If I remember, they are pretty laggy without the aid of nitrous. Here is a dyno of mine, on a plain street port, 2mm stock seals and nothing else done to the engine. The turbo is a borg warner S300 66mm extended tip NON ball bearing turbo at 28 lbs boost. I didnt think this turbo was that laggy and has a nice flat torque curve and hit full boost from about 4700-4800 to 8500 which is almost a 4000 rpm power band of full boost and made 610 whp and 455 lb ft torque. Hope this helps the OP for a decent streetable turbo for 600+whp.

The KAI and SPL can be had in both journal and ball bearing flavors, but the SPL is bigger.
