HKS T04e Overboosting

Hi guys,

Just converted to single turbo... everything is ok... no smoke..

The only problem is that i am overboosting.. I am using the turbosmart wastegate which i hooked up to the intercooler pipe right after the turbo...it is connected via the boost control solonoid from the greddy e-01 that i am using... before going single i had connected the COM side to the actuator and the NO side to the intercooler.... Now i have connected the COM to the Wastegate and the NC to the Intercooler pipe as it says in the E-01 manual... it keeps overboosting...

what do i do... My friend tell me that i should connect it to the COM and NO rather than COM and NC.. I just followed what greddy manual said...

Ok i have the following vaccums now...

one from the Breather to the intake before the turbo
one from the wastegate to the intercooler pipe with the boost control solonoid in between..
one from the UIM to the boost guage and the E-01
One from UIM to blow off valve..

thats about it... i did not take off the UIM... so did not take off the map sensor vaccum....Did i miss anything ??.........the car seems to run great.. boost buildup is amazing... but what do i do about this overboosting..

Also has anyone used the turbosmart 45mm Progate... that is what i am using... how do i reduce the boost to the minimum... there were two ports on the wastegate to hookup the vaccum to and i connected it to the lower one... the upper one is empty.. do i need to block it?? or should i just connect the vaccum on the upper port? both prots are on the side.. there is an adjustment screw on the top which i have loosened as much as possible...

Also i have only connected one vaccum to the wastegate am i supposed to connect 2??

I know these are alot of questions but i wanted to give an idea of what i have done so that it would be easier to pin point the problem...

Please help...

Thanks

First, bypass the boost controller completely to see if you have a mechanical problem (poor manifold-wastegate combo). Run a straight pressure source to the BOTTOM port of the wastegate, and leave the TOP PORT OPEN. It should now run at spring pressure only.

If it's overboosting you will have to live with a little creep or get a new manifold wastegate combo. Is this the divided HKS cast manifold?

First what spring did the wastgate come with, and what are you calling overboosting? If you have a 14 PSI spring and you want to max your boost at 8 PSI guess what......

and secondly is this a typo?

"I am using the turbosmart wastegate which i hooked up to the intercooler pipe right after the turbo..."

Not knowing a thing about turbosmart (I use a greddy WG) wastegates are tied into the exhaust side of the equation...not the intercooler side

I think he's saying that the pressure reference line for the wastegate is being sourced on the intercooler piping.

These are key questions Kenn is asking - same as I was going to post.

Hook it up to run off of wastegate spring pressure (from source closest to turbo to lower port on WG). Do you know what rate your spring is? Most wastegates will have options for different spring rates. A common spring for a 45mm gate is 1bar. Are you boosting over 15lbs?

If you bought it new, Turbosmart's site said it comes with 7, 10, 14, 17, and 21 psi springs. Make sure you have the right one installed for your application.

also, I've noticed that my gauge is off by 2psi (says my MoTeC/3bar MAP sensor).
So that's another thing to consider.
